Seafood grotto a family favorite. Times are much different now. Despite rising cost for produce the value here is still good for your money. We, ordered a flounder meal and a steak meal with a pot of tea and cold drinks roughly $70. We loved and enjoyed our kai mind you we told them how we wanted our eggs sunny side up! I always ask for Worcester sauce to go with my steak but I had the flounder kai so lemon juice meant a lot and i got it – fresh. You get salt and pepper at your table. If not just ask the friendly waiter. The service always kind. Chef cook with love and expertise. Only issue i wish the napkin were large size to go with their large plate of kai. P. S 2 months old review. Will we go back? Yes! Next time with photos. And here you go whanau. The latest taken today Wednesday 8 October 2025. It was B for beautiful service and E for enough. I ordered the all-day breakfast fish $18 you get buttered bread with hot drinks (tea, coffee or milo).

At 1pm last Tuesday I bought a pau fritter to start my seafood journey, I had one bite of this fritter and it tasted off and smelt rank! ! I thought it might be my taste buds, I tried a second bite this almost made me ill on the spot! I threw the item out and left! I did not continue with anything more for om menu! I have had pau fritters all my life and make my own, I know the difference between good and bad, this was definitely’BAD’!!! ……At 2am Wednesday morning I woke up vomiting, definitely this fritter as I only had fruit and a sandwich from home post this!

First question I asked was “is the fish fresh”. I asked again, what was fish of the day and that it was definitely fresh. I was assured that yes it was. Ordered two Tarakihi fish meals at 28.00 each. They turn up and there was two pieces of fish, French fries and coleslaw. Looked ok. Started eating….hmmmm I said to my friend, this fish is greyish looking, very grainy flesh, and very very dry. Soft white barely cooked French fries, and coleslaw had no mayo and was just raw cabbage and carrot. As a former fish and chips shop owner, I know the difference between fresh, five day old or frozen fresh fish. I ate some of the fish and sadly regretted that all afternoon. It was Tuesday after a long weekend so your fish would have been delivered on the Friday so there was no way it was fresh. Definitely gone downhill as it used to be highly recommended. This was a 28.00 meal. Don’t lie, be honest and say no, it’s frozen, or weather has been so bad no fresh fish available and adjust the price accordingly. It was just plain yuck. Sorry Seafood Grotto but you need to up your game.

Been coming here for over a year never had a problem with the service or meals until today paper thin fish Literally wish I took photos and they have changed from. thick style chips to shoestring fries hopefully it was just a one off

Disappointed at the meals we just had. The fat was clearly old, it left a chemical taste in your mouth. It was a waste of snapper. We didn’t eat the bread or the chips or the coleslaw which looked old and dry. This restaurant was the place to go back in the day, not anymore. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

I got takeaway. This use to be decent but now pay for 2 scoop of chips and get half a scoop. Times are hard I get that but don’t rip off customers. Batter on the fish has changed it use to be thin and crispy. Might be different dine in.
