Tucked away in Kaimuki, this hidden gem of a restaurant has authentic Japanese skewers. Restaurant menu has everything from skewers, sashimi, to nabe.
For dinner, my coworkers and I enjoy the variety of skewers. The steak, chicken, pork belly, sausage and mushroom skewers are popular in our group. You have a choice to select Teri or salt with each skewer. Also, I enjoy ordering the mulberry chu-hi while I eat.
Their lunch special is really good too. I believe they have 8 lunch specials to select from. It comes with miso soup, rice and three sides. For the price, it’s worth it. My pictures show two of the lunch specials.
Happy hour is good but its for a short time period like 4 pm to 4:30 pm.
Service is good, including the atmosphere being open air. Though the open air bring quite a number of flies during the day and evening hours. It’s unappealing to constantly swap flies away.

Came three times during my 6 day trip in Oahu
Yakitori is so authentic and well made. I regrets not coming here every day.
The owner is so friendly, such a hidden gem that not too many tourists know. Best restaurant overall in Hawaii

Look at all this delicious food! Every dish we tried was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. From the refreshing grapefruit drink to the perfectly paired Asahi beer, everything was spot on. We ordered a little bit of everything, and it did not disappoint—each bite was better than the last. Be sure to make reservations, as it’s a small spot, but absolutely worth it!

Excellent food and service, beyond our expectations. We are a group of 4 adults and 1 kid and we ordered 4 main courses (lunch bento sets) + 1 appetizer + 1 sashimi platter + beef intestine plus udon and tofu, and we finished all because they were sooo good! They could also accommodate our request so thanks to them! Highly recommended to book a reservation here. Glad we made our first lunch of the year 2026 here.

We used to come here in 2019-2020 before Covid since I worked in the neighborhood. Today we dicided to eat late dinner but alas, the food was not the same. Quality and taste went down the hill. Sushi was small and dry. Drinks were not good. Service was ok and ambiance was ok with some loud tourist. Won’t be back. The food quality and the price are not worth it.

When I, a white woman, walked up to the hostess and she immediately said no seats available after looking back at the manager who shook his head no. My Asian husband was using the restroom and came up behind me a few minutes later and she then said they had two seats free…..we proceeded to watch the hostess turn away white couple only and let in only Asian customers. Maybe they have been getting a lot of bad reviews from Europeans and tourists but I lived in Japan several years and speak Japanese so maybe don’t judge your potential customers who you don’t know cause I love izakaya food and live here but would definitely not go back or recommend to anyone based on that.

Akis izakaya is a hidden gem! They have chicken and veggie yakitori, sushi and a few other Japanese plates. We went for the skewers and everything was good! Friendly service and nice open air ambiance.
It gets busy so you might need a reservation.

Beef intestine spicy nabe is way too fat, the service is mediocre at best, waiter takes forever to set up the table while we are the only guests eating

Located in a plaza with gated parking lot, and you have to drive in the parking lot to find the restaurant. The yakitori skewers taste good, and fairly priced. However they promoted specialty sushi pieces and sashimi pieces with fish from Japan, those are very expensive.
