I must say I drive a nice distance for this when I get a taste for it, but it was very disappointing the last time I visited 1 month ago. I waited in the lobby for cooked food and it was still only room temperature. I was so irritated bc I’d already gotten on the freeway headed back to the city

The Canton location is incredible through a stroke of bad luck ordering online my order went to the Livonia one. After the drive I still had to wait an extra 20 beyond my pick up time for my order. Skip online order just call the Canton one and place over the phone.

I ordered 2 hibachi chicken meals, no soup/salad I subbed it for chicken fried rice and added noodles to my order. I ordered on Sunday so they closed at 6, drove 30 minutes to pick my food up (picked my order up at 5:27) . Didn’t cross my mind to check my order before I left because I always order from the canton location which never has disappointed me. I get home and my order is incorrect, no noodles, rice was not cooked properly. I paid extra for garlic butter , which they did not put in the bag. I called today because by the time I got home they were closed and was told they can’t replace my order only the noodles & garlic butter. Terrible customer service . Will never be ordering from here again.

Their food is good, sometimes it be cold. I do have an issue that was very disappointing, I placed an order, picked up my food right before they closed, I got home and they forgot our side of fried rice, yum yum sauce and garlic butter sauce. I called in to let them know and she said she would put it in the system, when I called to place another order today and to get my items they forgot last time she claim I wasn’t in the system so she couldn’t give it to me which is really messed up because I paid for that and didn’t get it the first time and was promised I would get it next time I ordered. So If a business can’t keep their word I can’t trust them and will no longer order from them.

UPDATE: I went in today and saw at least 2 small children roaming/playing in the kitchen freely while the food was being prepared. The youngest child (around 2 years old?) was picking food from a prepared food pan (looked like chicken) and eating it! This is unsanitary and unsafe! I pointed this out to a worker and the child was ushered to the back. I understand some parents needing to choose between child care and work but the children should be somewhere in the back being supervised.
PREVIOUS REVIEW: I ordered the salmon hibachi. It was as delicious or BETTER than the expensive alternative!! I cannot wait to go back. I chose soup for my meal but it wasn’t in the bag. The only thing is, I would love later hours like another reviewer suggested. See you soon Sumo!

My husband and I got take out for a picnic and it was so good! My salmon was seasoned well and the noodles were delicious. The inside of the restaurant was also very clean and I thought the food was really well priced for the quality! We will definitely be coming back.

Stopped in today for the first time. I tried the steak hibachi. The salad dressing was out of this world good. Steak was really good and with all the side the price is excellent for what i got. Shout out on that fried rice too. Will definitely put this place in my rotation.

I photographed a few of their dishes and was fortunate to eat the beef salad and the hibachi scallops. So good and fresh. The atmosphere is clean and welcoming. I like the use of the green colors too.

This was my first visit to Sumo Japanese Grill in Livonia. The food tastes just as good as the big box Japanese grill without the high prices. One thing that’s better at Sumo is that you get soup or salad, vegetables, rice and noodles with every meal. The portion sizes are great as well. My only disappointment is that they don’t have the two sauces that the other place gives you; they only serve yum yum sauce. I will go back to try other menu items and even repeat what I’ve already enjoyed… salad, vegetables, calamari, shrimp, chicken, and hibachi chicken fried rice (upcharge). I ate half of my food, was satisfied and enjoyed the leftovers the next day. Delicious!

This is the first fast/casual hibachi place I’ve seen! The hibachi grill is behind the counter instead of at each table; tables are normal and you place your order at the front. Food is delicious and a bit cheaper than traditional hibachi.
Definitely give this one a shot for carryout/takeout or casual lunch/dinner – it’s small and not a big celebration spot like usual hibachi. Perfect if you’re just hungry for good food and not looking for the ‘full’ experience! (Also their Yellowfin Tuna is cooked perfectly!)
