We had a wonderful dining experience here! The restaurant is run by a couple, the lady was lovely and very attentive, frequently checking in to make sure the spice level was just right. We ordered the chicken biryani and saag beef—both were authentic, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Truly deserving of a 5-star rating!

I had such an amazing evening at Tara. The food was so rich and savoury, everything just tingled my taste buds. I got chatting with the chef and turns out he’s cousins with the chef in my hometown of Kingston. Such a small world and once I knew the connection I understood why I was in such a amazing restaurant.

Tara Restaurant in Barrie delivers an outstanding dining experience from start to finish. We ordered the Chef’s Plate for two, which included butter chicken, mango chutney, rice, naan, soup, dessert, and more- and every single item was excellent. The butter chicken deserves special mention: it is, without question, the best plate of food I have ever had in my life. The sauce is rich, smooth, and so unique with nuts and raisins in it- it is perfectly seasoned, and the chicken is incredibly tender. It is comfort food at the highest level.
I have lived in Barrie since 2010 and have seen many restaurants come and go over the years. Tara stands out because the quality has remained consistently exceptional the entire time. It is an amazing, family-owned staple in the community that clearly takes pride in what they serve.
If you are looking for a memorable meal and a restaurant that truly represents consistency, care, and authenticity, Tara is a must-visit. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

I have been ordering from Tara for many years and occasionally go in to eat. Last night, they welcomed me into their kitchen to show how they make the food fresh. I was blown away. They have been there for 37 years for a reason. I usually get the sweet butter chicken but I have tried various dishes and they are so authentic and delicious. The tandoori oven makes the best Nann! I have never been disappointed 🙂

Absolutely the BEST Authentic Indian food I have had in my entire life. It was so fresh and made with love. I’m plant based and they accommodated beautifully. They made great recommendations and Yar the chef / owner came out to express his gratitude. This is a family run place and I can’t wait to come back. They are all absolutely lovely. 5 stars is not enough for this place.

SPOILED FOOD AND WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. My experience at this place was extremely disappointing. We ordered two dishes.Tandoori chicken had a piece of chicken that was clearly rotten. It had unpleasant smell and off color.
We politely informed the chef about the issue expecting acknowledgement or replacement. Instead he was argumentative, dismissive and unwilling to accept constructive criticism. There was no effort to correct the situation or serve fresh food.
It is important for any restaurant to serve good food and pleasant customer service. This place lacked both! I will make sure I tell everyone in my neighborhood and friend circles of my experience to ensure they don’t go through this harrassment!

I live about an hour away from this restaurant. (Used to live closer and eat there all the time) I happened to be in town and thought I’d grab dinner to go. They were closed. I recently tried Tara Indian Cuisine for the first time, and now I see why it’s so well-known in Barrie. The moment I walked in, the place had this warm, welcoming vibe and the aroma of spices was amazing.
One thing that really stood out was the achievement wall near the entrance. It’s filled with awards, recognitions, and photos that show how respected this restaurant is. I noticed they’ve been serving since 1989, which is incredible, and they’ve even received a recent award for excellence in food and service. You can tell they’ve built a strong reputation over the years and continue to live up to it.
I ordered Chicken Tandoori, Chicken Tikka, and Garlic Naan. everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. The naan was soft and buttery with just enough garlic, and the chicken dishes were juicy and full of bold flavor.
Great food, great atmosphere, and a rich history behind it. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending it to others.
