$13.99 a pound for create your own hot pot was a great after spa dinner. No wait to be seated, no line to build your bowl, and cooked meal is served up very quickly. The alkaline water service was a nice touch.

Would come back to YinTang Oden Spicy Hot Pot photos of the medium spicy beef bone broth, lamb, bok choy, fish cake with roe, quail eggs and mushrooms attached.

These kind of restaurants have been popping up a lot recently especially in the Rowland Heights area. There are at least 4-5 that I can think of in the top of my head. YinTang is one of the original/first ones that opened and they still stood as one of the better ones. For those of you that are new to these restaurants. Its basically they have a spicy soup base that have options from mild to very spicy and some have non spicy soup base. There is a counter where You get to have a basket and put the food you want into it. There are many options ( beef, lamb, seafood, veggies, noodles, etc ). After you put your food into the basket, you go to the cashier and they will weigh the basket and depending on their price per pound, thats how much you need to pay. You will tell them the soup base you want and spice level for it. You then get to go back to your assigned seat and they will cook it for you. Usually takes them about 5 minutes and server will take it out to you.

YinTang is locate: in a strip mall plaza right off at the corner of the exit of Fullerton and 60 West. Location is convenient to find and go. The parking is not huge but enough for cars to park there for those businesses. Lunch time and dinner time often can be busy but from the handful of times I have been there, even if they are busy, we never needed to wait to get seated.

The interior setting here is bright and can seat maybe at least 40 people and it can have moderate noise level. They do have music playing as well so although it is not extreme loud with all the people speaking and music, this isn’t the quiet place you are looking for.

Cleanliness level is moderate. Not the best but not dirty. Server will organize the food counter or add food to the empty tray. Cashier / server is friendly.

Food / soup base wise, i like it here more than other places because I’m not someone that can handle spicy food. They mild spicy is exactly what I wanted or should be because you can still taste it but to a point a person that can’t handle it can still eat it but other places, their mild is not even mild and more to spicy level. ( my friend who can handle spicy can taste it and tell ). Soup is pork bone broth and it is tasty. Meat quality is decent based on what you pay for.

Overall, this is one of the recommended place to go in rowland heights if you want a good experience.

I didn’t give it a 5 star because the place / restroom can be a little more clean although its not bad at all.

My second time trying malatang. This place was pretty spacious in the same plaza as Starbucks. Plenty of parking, and easy to find. The staff were quite nice! When you go in, you grab what you want first and you bring it to the staff member at the front. There you choose what broth and your bowl gets weighed. You don’t pay until the end, which I don’t understand.

The food and broth were quite good. I got the original flavor. There was a ton of different food you can put into your bowl. The only issue I had was that the food labels on the wall were not correct to what the food was. For example the beef label was flipped with the lamb. It would be ok for me, but if someone didn’t know the difference and they didn’t like it, it would be a problem. Another thing is that the tongs you use to grab the food, there isn’t any separate ones, so I imagine there can be quite a lot of cross contamination if someone is not careful.

Despite those things, i did still have a good experience, and I hope they make some changes in case someone may be allergic to something. Until next time !

I ordered food today and found a metal object inside, which I accidentally consumed. I’m not feeling well now. I wanted to inform you immediately because this is a serious food safety issue.

It can get pretty busy here! I like their bone broth and they have a lot of ingredients to choose from. This is one of the rare places that offer baby corn. I like to pay in cash and get their Hawthorne drink or green tea.
Honestly I don’t think the bone broth is made in house and probably a combo of a lot of ingredients but it’s nice to indulge sometimes. There are plenty of fresh and frozen ingredients that are not processed foods like fish balls to choose from if you try to be healthy.
FYI: I think the tomato soup base is a bit too sweet for my taste. And the dry pot is mostly just sesame paste flavor and not enough seasoning if you get mil, compared to YGF Malatang. So their bone broth is definitely the best of the options.

Good personal hotpot place. Good price to permanent ratio. Pretty fast. The soups were all nice and drinkable. Even the spiciest level was not that spicy. Lots of veggies and meats to choose from. All tasted pretty fresh. If I were in the area I would come again if I have a craving for hotpot.

So far I’ve been here twice and really enjoyed it both times. I think it’s becoming my favorite hot pot restaurant in the area. The best part about it is the concept. You enter the restaurant and grab a bowl to pick any toppings you want (60+ toppings available to choose from). Then your bowl is weighted (you later will pay by pound). The last step is to pick your soup base: bone broth (with different spice levels) or tomato. Then your toppings are taken to the kitchen to get cooked.
It’s such a great system, because you get exactly what you want. The products quality is very decent. And I love that they have a loooot of veggies.

This place is very popular, but tables free up quickly. Lots of parking right next to the restaurant.

Inside small plaza. Plenty parking.
Its not hot pot like usually hot pot, where you cook your own food.
So you pick whatever you want from buffet for 13.99/lbs, bring it to cashier, they will weight it and ask you what kind soup you want and give you the number.

Veggie is fresh and clean.
Buffet place is clean.

The most popular and tasty is beef soup but mild spicy (for me i dont taste any spicy). Second is tomato soup a little sour and last clear soup. For clear soup, you need to add salt by yourself. For people dont eat salty it will be okay.
You can put minced garlic and green onion from sauces station on the soup, make it more tasty. Off course if you like garlic and green onion.
Ask for small bowl for sharing.

Place is clean, server is good too. At least they can explain it how its work in english.

I try plum juice drink and its not my favorite. There is a smoke taste or something. Its just different than i thou.

Definely will be back.

The beef bone soup base is rather bland and different from the classic malatang because it’s definitely not spicy enough. The ingredients are fresh but there aren’t many choices to choose from, the sauce section is clean and tidy but again, not a lot of options. It’s good enough to be a lunch spot tho.

This is my go-to malatang spot. Line isn’t long the times I come, food ( i feel like ) is always fresh and they serve me quick. Love the coupons usage as I can save a few hundred bucks each month.
