Fresh, flavorful, and that ranch is everything!
Blue Barn in Novato is one of those places I keep coming back to and I always end up ordering the Northern Fry with crispy tater tots and a side of their amazing ranch. You know that ranch that just hits the spot? This is it. Creamy, tangy, and totally addictive.
The menu is packed with fresh, locally sourced options. You’ll find hearty salads like the Cobber and Waldorf with shrimp, creative sandwiches (the skirt steak is a favorite), burgers, tacos, and even comfort sides like tomato basil soup and seasonal greens. There’s something for everyone, including vegan and vegetarian choices.
The outdoor seating is cozy and clean, with umbrellas for sunny days and a relaxed vibe that’s perfect for casual dining. It’s pet-friendly and kid-friendly, so expect a lively crowd during peak hours. Staff is friendly and quick, and the whole place has a laid-back, California-cool feel.
If you’re in Novato and craving fresh ingredients with bold flavors, Blue Barn is a solid pick. Just don’t skip the ranch.

The food can be OK. But surprisingly the staff were abrupt and seemingly not happy to be there. Their attitude was that they were doing us a huge favor by putting our order together. Our online order took a long time and was given to us well after the scheduled ready time. Overall – given the price we paid, why go there? Really only one positive – I have to mention that the tater tots are nicely crunchy and tasty and can be considered a good value.

The food I got here was SO good. I was so indecisive on what to get since there was plenty of options, but ended up getting the Waldorf salad + shrimp, and the Truffle sandwich subbed with ciabatta bread. I had no high expectation since the last location I went to was disappointing, but everything I got was so good. The fruit in the salad was so tasty, not hard or tasteless as it usually goes, the shrimp was good, and the sandwich was amazing.

Enjoyed a nice lunch here on the way up to the Northern Coast. You can tell it’s a popular lunch spot for the locals. Lots of seating outside and very dog-friendly. The Rooster was delicious and the salads are big, fresh, and flavorful. The prices are a bit steep ($35 for sandwich and salad), but filling and well-made.

Lots of crying babies but the food was very yummy and fresh. My order of tomato bisque, fatuous (quinoa), and a barn burger was great! I was satiated and thought the salad portion size was huge. Perfect for sharing with 1-2 people even.

The go-to place for salads in Novato, and surprisingly for sandwiches (turkey club highly recommended) and best of all, tater tots. Tater tots are the secret success of Blue Barn. I know — you’d never expect tater tots at a salad place. Get the salad because you should, get the tater tots because you should not. You’ll see them on everyone’s tray. When they ask what kind of sauce to dip them in, say “garlic aioli.” It’s the bomb.

Freakin delicious! And adorable to boot! ☺️ We stopped in before the lunch rush to grab some sandwiches and salads – amazingly tasty! Plus we sat out on their beautiful back patio – lovely atmosphere! I tried the BLT and Burrata sandwiches and they were awesome – plus GOOD FRIES! (Always get the fries)

Delicious!! It’s a little pricey but honestly very much worth it for the quality and quantity of food you receive. I highly recommend this place and would definitely come back when in the area.
Service was also very friendly.
The ranch is made in house, a lot of their produce and meat are sourced from local farms, and they even make their own rice krispies treats.

We like the Blue Barn Thai chicken salads but came home Tuesday night with their $20 salad that had maybe 2 tablespoons of chicken in it. A big box of lettuce for $20. Come on!
