Social Profile:

RFD Franklin, located in the heart of historic downtown Franklin, features freshly prepared innovative cuisine based on traditional favorites. The name RFD Franklin is a tribute to the building’s postal heritage recognizing a time when “Rural Free Delivery” was a very important method of communication to unite the nation. The letters in the name of this mail system were purposefully incorporated into the motto of “Real Food, Fresh Dining”. Some have suggested the meaning could also be Reservations for Dinner!”

Tried this place for the first time this evening — the new higher-end, casually upscale dining venue in Franklin. Food was very good (we each got the 6 oz filet, plus asparagus and brussels sprouts as sides). Ordered the candied-bacon Deviled Eggs as an appetizer; they were good. Service was fairly good for a place only in its ninth night open; servers stopped by often to see if there were anything we needed. Iced tea was a bit cloudy for my taste and was never refilled during dinner, but those were minor issues compared to the overall quality of the meal. Building is a 1930s former post office and is decorated with appropriate postal accoutrements. Our bill for the two of us came to $50 plus tip, not bad for a meal of this type. Nice dinner — would return!

This new fine dining restaurant in Franklin is wonderful. The pasta special was very tasty and the steaks were enjoyed. The soup of the day was tasty but only lukewarm. Service was attentive and pleasant. We recommend this restaurant.

Time for some urgent changes in the kitchen!

I’ll start with the good – the venue has a lot of character. A former post office, with lots of stuff to remind you of it’s former days. Very unique.
And I loved the private table inside the old safe.

The limited staff (hostess, server, and trainee) didn’t cover the large space well, even though there were only us and just three other tables.
For example, when we arrived, there was no one around to sit, us for a long while. Eventually,I had to enter the kitchen to find someone.

The food was a flop.
I ordered the wedge salad (which shows on the menu under “large salads”). In fact, the server suggested to share it.
What arrived from the kitchen wasn’t any wedge, just two bite-size prices of lettuce (one was the stem, so shouldn’t have been served at all), a few strings of pickled onions, and one chery tomato sliced in half. What on earth was that?
Then I had the vegetarian pasta. The only noticable flavor was garlic. Everything else was blend.
Overall- pretty bad.

The only reason I didn’t send back both dishes was that I was with other people and didn’t want to keep them waiting until another dish is prepared and served.
But I did have to eat ice cream when I got back home, to get rid of the heavy garlic aftertaste.

It is sad that such a venue, with so much potential, has such a disappointing performance in the kitchen.

Always amazing food and drinks at this place. Such a neat atmosphere, but the food is what is the draw. I never miss an opportunity to eat here when I am in the area. Quality food at exceptional pricing. Perfect for a date or a special occasion place! When the weather is nice, the large patio provides a great dining experience.

Ambience was mediocre. It’s a neat space, but there’s something lacking. As far as food is concerned, it was actually very bland. The food came out cold. My filet was dry, mashed potatoes were dry. Pricing seemed astronomical for the quality, especially considering the modest portion size.

My husband I arrived at 5 PM when they opened. The building is cool. It’s definitely original with the decor. When we got there we were the only ones as they just opened. I ordered a sweet tea which I found out after she brought it that they don’t carry sweet tea, but unsweetened and they gave sweetener for it. That’s fine though. No biggie.

For an appetizer we ordered southwest egg rolls. They were delicious and were the only part of our experience that was pleasant.

For our meals, I had the tomato basil pasta and my husband had the Cajun pasta. Zero flavor on both. My husband had even less flavor than mine which I don’t know how it’s even possible. It was basically just tasting the noodles. So so bland. Pasta from fazolis is even better than this was.

Our service was not good. I had to ask for a refill after waiting 10 minutes of being out of my drink. At this point there was only one other table there. When we were done eating, we waited another 20 minutes before ever receiving our ticket. There were 2 other tables at this point. Then we waited more than 30 minutes for our server to come back and take our card to pay. At this point another table came in, had their drinks, ordered their food and received their meal well before we were able to pay. Our total time waiting to leave was almost an hour and and we were there for a total of 1 1/2 hours. Will never go back.

Very small portions and mediocre service for the price. The food was good, but for $60+ per person I would go elsewhere. I don’t have issue of paying for quality food and service, we often go to places where it may be $150+ per person, but we get exceptional service and decent portions.

I got the scallops and it was 4 scallops and maybe two pieces of asparagus and a few leaves of spinach.

My wife and I also sat unnoticed for extended periods of time (especially when we first arrived) and the restaurant wasn’t very busy, nor did it look understaffed.

Overall it wasn’t a bad dinner, it just wasn’t that great either.

What a neat place for a restaurant! It’s a charming location with great food and excellent service. I had the swordfish special, and the serving size was huge. My wife had the scallops, and both were meals cooked to perfection. The staff is proud of the building’s heritage and it shows in the service. We were able to speak to the owner. She was anxious to know how we liked her place and gave us a history of how a 1930’s U.S. Post Office became a charming restaurant. It’s located near the historic county courthouse, a great place to take a leisurely stroll after dinner. My wife and I had an excellent experience all around. It may be a little out of your way, but well worth the trip.
