Tancho brings the joy of sushi to all. Whether you’re an expert or a first-timer, we design omakase meals anyone can fall in love with. Omakase is a highly involved, chef-selected sushi experience historically reserved for only a few guests at a time. Our mission is to bring the delight of omakase to everyone without sacrificing quality. Every Tancho meal is prepared with precision: rice served at the right temperature, sauces paired to perfection. All in all, you get an ideal mix of sashimi, nigiri, and rolls that takes years to master — but only seconds to melt in your mouth.

Giselle and Devan were so kind and sweet. We went to celebrate for a fun omakase and it do not disappoint. The fish was so fresh and the service was prompt. Both of the servers were knowledgeable and welcoming. The grand omakase is the way to go. A little bit of everything but please add the scallop hand roll. It is light and refreshing and beautiful presentation. What a lovely meal we left full but not uncomfortable

The overall experience is okay. We generally liked the taste of the food. There are three things I want to raise warning. 1. The sushi pieces are sliced way too thin. There’s a standard for sushi thickness in the authentic sushi world. To skim it so thinly is a big no no! They’re definitely cutting corners. 2. To be called Omakase instead of regular sushi and charge a premium price, the chef has to showcase not only the wide selection of ingredients, but also his skills and techniques in many ways, and the deep understanding of matching the ingredients. I can’t see them in the production of this restaurant. 3. They automatically puts 17% tips on all checks, which is not a big issue in itself. The issue is they tax on the tips also. It’s not the way to calculate the checks.
In conclusion, I believe the head chef of this place had worked in a sushi restaurant before but hasn’t been professionally trained. There are many things gave away that it’s a pretend omakase. This is copying, and they get away with it with most non-Japanese people who don’t know the difference.

First – shout out Devan – you bring the amazing energy and positive vibes every time I eat at Tancho. 5/5 human being.

I grew up coming to ATX to be with family as a kid before I moved full time after college to Austin full for 10 years. I’ve been fortunate enough to have eaten at a lot of sushi spots across the city – from long-standing favorites to the newer, hype-driven places that have popped up as the food scene has evolved. Through all of that, Tancho has remained truly exceptional and in a league of its own.

This is real sushi. Exceptional fish quality, perfectly seasoned rice, and restraint in the best way possible. Nothing is over-sauced or trying too hard to chase trends. Every piece tastes intentional and clean, which is increasingly rare. You can tell this is a place run by people who deeply respect the craft.

The vibe is calm, intimate, and quietly elevated — not flashy, not overly precious, and not designed for Instagram. It feels like a place that existed before the noise and will still be here long after it. Service is thoughtful and knowledgeable without being stiff, which feels very true to the best version of Austin dining. Even the chopsticks and napkins are solid. Love the foldable chopstick packaging holder.

Tancho is the kind of spot longtime Austinites quietly hold close — a true gem for people who actually love sushi and appreciate quality over trends. If you’ve watched Austin’s food scene change and still crave places that do things right, this one is special.

Reasonable prices for fresh and quality omakase dishes. The restaurant is cosy, clean, and offers a warm modern quiet place to chat. Our host Sophia was cheerful, attentive and efficient.

This place is amazing! We waited 20 minutes to be seated as walk-ins. We ordered the omakase and a couple of salmon nigiri, which were more than enough for the two of us. We also enjoyed some delicious green tea. Everything was fresh and incredible. I highly recommend visiting! Our server even treated us to a complimentary dessert—a fantastic red bean mochi! Highly recommend!

Place is clean. Food is great. And the prices are reasonable for an Omakase experience.

We walked in on a Friday evening without a reservation and had no wait time. The staff were very accommodating.

I love that they are a no tip restaurant, meaning the they include a 17% service charge to your total. The service is great, but it isn’t tied to the expectation of a tip, it’s just great service.

My husband and I both did the great omakase with a bottle of Sake. 10/10

I love Tancho so much, the Grand Omakase is my go to! My most recent visit was amazing. Devon (the manager?) Was so polite and professional. When our server got busy with incoming tables, Devon made sure we had water and everything we needed before our next course. In the previous times I’ve gone, I’ve seen him busy managing the front end. Even when busy, he’s very observant and on top of things.
I’ll be sure to keep visiting with my family!

Tancho Sushi is a hidden gem in Austin that completely exceeded our expectations. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, striking the perfect balance between modern and intimate.

The sushi itself was phenomenal—ultra-fresh, beautifully plated, and bursting with flavor. Every piece felt carefully crafted, with just the right balance of rice and fish. The specialty rolls were creative without being over the top, and the nigiri was some of the best we’ve had in the city.

Beyond the food, the service was outstanding. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they serve, which made the whole experience feel personal and memorable.

We left already planning our next visit. Whether you’re a sushi purist or love inventive rolls, Tancho delivers on all fronts. Absolutely one of Austin’s must-visit sushi spots.
