Went to Cross J Cattle last night and didn’t quite know what to expect. The building is completely unassuming in the Kay Lake marina complete with some nutty political sign messaging (they delete any Facebook posts that don’t directly identify with their Christian National agenda).
From the moment we entered, that uncertainty disappeared. The hostesses and staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Service throughout the night was attentive and exactly what you want in a good steakhouse.
The interior is genuinely impressive. Beautiful wood tables and stone features give it a rustic but refined feel. Spurs hanging over the bar, classic cowboy elements, and a warm, well-designed layout that feels intentional rather than themed. It strikes a great balance between country and classy.
Drinks: I had an Old Fashioned made with Woodford. Solid bar and good selection overall. The drink was fine but not particularly memorable.
Appetizers: We started with the calf fries. Excellent seasoning, perfectly fried, and a very generous portion.
Mains and sides:
I ordered the filet, medium plus, and they absolutely nailed the temperature. Light marinade, great crust, and a very high-quality cut of meat. Another person at the table had the jalapeño pork chop, which had a nice kick, was cooked perfectly, and came out juicy with a large portion.
Sides were strong across the board.
– Mushrooms were outstanding, great seasoning and texture
– House potatoes were excellent, cheesy, well-spiced, and flavorful
– Asparagus was good, nothing fancy but done right
– Salad bar was very fresh and thoughtfully arranged
– French fries were a standout, thick cut, house-made, and a great throwback style
We saw a ribeye come out to another table and immediately added it to the list for next time.
Overall, the experience exceeded expectations. Friendly, professional service, thoughtful atmosphere, and high-quality food from start to finish.
Make a reservation. Make the drive. Cross J Cattle is the real deal.

The best steaks, cooked to perfection. We drive 2hours one way to eat there twice a month. Excellent mixed drinks. Outstanding desserts. Very simple menu. No fluff, just great food. Atmosphere is rustic with actual pictures from the working Cross J Ranch. Wait staff is very attentive. And the owner will come around and visit with you.

Took my wife here for Valentine’s Day. A little hard to find at dark. Plain metal building but the inside was really nice. We had two steaks two sides a piece a drink and half an appetizer and our total was 155. Service was not very good at all. Wife ordered a salad bar and never was given a plate or told where the plates were. Drinks were forgotten or not received where we had to stop a waiter to ask after about 20 minutes. The calf fries were good but the $60+ ribeye was bland. There was no flavor. The cut was good and nicely sized but paying that price you’d expect great flavor to go along with the prime meat.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Incredible dining experience! I could literally cut my filet with my fork—so tender and packed with amazing flavor. The baked potato was hot and perfect, the salad bar was fresh and well stocked, and the hot rolls were absolutely delicious. The service was exceptional from start to finish, and the atmosphere is beautiful—warm, inviting, and upscale without feeling stuffy. Cross J Cattle Prime Steakhouse is a must-visit in Ponca City. We’ll definitely be back!

Cross J is an incredible addition to the OKLAHOMA culinary scene. Wild West meets High End Steakhouse. The charm of Kaw Lake and Ponca City, with a plate that you usually only get at a Michelin star restaurant. Usually I am so disappointed in steak portions, but not here. Jory and his team make every penny you spend worth it. Even better – I love the small feel of the place.. It truly creates a unique dining experience.

Been twice now. Had the ribeye the first time and the tomahawk this time. Both steaks were cooked to perfection. Salad bar fresh and salad plates very cold. Drinks are made really well. Asparagus the first trip was great this last time the Asparagus was over cooked but after eating the tomahawk I didn’t have the room to eat it anyway.
We will be back. Only place I’ve ever had a better tasting steak is at my house.
Keep up the great work.

Well, if you wanna spend money on a good steak, this is where you go. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. The service is top notch. Rusty barrel doesn’t hold a dime and anybody that says so it’s just a hater. ♂️ ♂️ ♂️

We had an amazing evening! The service was fantastic! The decor is beautiful! The food is amazing. Our party had the ribeye, the filet, and the pork chop! All were cooked perfectly. It was worth the short 15 minutes drive from Ponca City.
The owners were so friendly and took time to greet us. We are definitely looking forward to going back soon.
The dessert is crazy good! Big enough to share. We had the Apple Dumpling with ice cream and the brownie with ice cream. Wow!!! Do yourself a favor and go enjoy a fantastic meal!

My wife and I decided to check this new steakhouse out. I’m glad we did. Her filet was cooked to her liking and my rib eye was one of the best I’ve ever had. Seriously, I ordered mine medium well and it was so tender and seasoned just right. We both ordered baked potatoes and salad. The salad bar was excellent. The price was comparable to our “other steakhouse here”. Next time we’re in the mood for a good steak we’ll drive out to the lake.

A bonafide steakhouse newly open as of Nov 2025. Walk inside to a relaxing western/rancher setting. Tender steak, great lobster and home potatoes. nice salad bar. drinks/dessert were awesome. Excellent service. It was a nice relaxing dinner (recommend the booths which are roomy and somewhat private). There is a reason you might pay more here than at the chain steakhouses. Just wish it were across the river in the Osage but it’s as close as you can get! Don’t let the Bur. of Reclamation closure of the road across Kaw Dam for repairs deter you from getting here.
