(1/15/26) I had a mixed experience at Hen & Egg in Jackson, MS. Unfortunately, the breakfast was not good. The grits were runny and had no seasoning at all. The potatoes were not true country-style breakfast potatoes and were very hard, with barely any seasoning. The biscuit was just okay honestly, Mary B’s frozen biscuits from the grocery store taste better. On the positive side, the lunch sides were really good. The greens and green beans tasted like somebody’s grandma cooked them, full of that homemade, comforting flavor. The mac and cheese was also pretty good. However, the chicken portion was disappointing. You only get one piece, and it was barely seasoned. Thankfully, the house hot sauce & ketchup is really good and helped improve the flavor of the chicken. The cornbread was okay, but it was a bit hard. Lastly, the cinnamon roll peach cobbler was not good. Overall, Hen & Egg has strong lunch sides, but the breakfast needs major improvement in seasoning, texture, and overall quality.

Run don’t walk to this piece of heaven on earth! WOW, what a breakfast! From the smiling faces greating us walking in the door to Britney our friendly server who gave us wonderful recommendations for our meal. We will DEFINITELY be back to try more of the amazing-ness of this gem! The food definitely stole the show. My wife had the pancakes with bacon and a side of grits. The pancakes were light, fluffy, flavorful and delicious. The grits were the perfect consistency and paired great with the pancake breakfast. I had the shrimp omelet which came with new potatoes and the choice of toast or a biscuit. The biscuit came with a spicy honey that was smooth and savory with just the right amount of sweet and spice! The omelet had mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, herbs all smothered in cheese. The new potatoes came with a house made ketchup that was so good we bought a bottle for the road! Very glad we stopped here today!!!

I absolutely love The Hen N Egg!!! The first time I visited, I had the shrimp and grits. The grits melted in my mouth and the shrimp were really flavorful. I loved my experience so much that I planned my birthday party and had it there. The party was a hit. My guests loved everything about it. They were thrilled with the field salad and smoked wings. I will brag on Chef Wallace and his staff to anyone everywhere.

Our first time here and we can’t wait to come back! The chef greeted us and seated us while we were in line. Everyone was so welcoming and nice! We received a complimentary cup of Mississippi gumbo and it was delicious!!!! I ordered the THEE breakfast and my husband ordered the Chicken & Waffles- everything was 10/10! We definitely be back!

This was my first time visiting the establishment, so I didn’t know what to expect. The wait time was long but im always ok with the wait as long as the food doesn’t disappoint. I had the BLT with fries. The BLT was amazing but the fries were ICE COLD. PLEASE TEACH YOUR KITCHEN STAFF NOT TO PLATE FRIES 30 MINUTES BEFORE SERVING.

My first time eating here. It was on a Sunday morning. I wasn’t sure what to try so I solicited the help of the waitress. Wanted breakfast. I am adding a picture of what she recommended. You can see my plate before and after. Everything was awesome! If you haven’t been there, go. You will not be disappointed!

I stopped by Hen and Egg since it’s just down the street from my job, and I’m glad I did! The restaurant is located in the old Sun and Sand Hotel and has a cozy feel. I really liked being able to see into the kitchen—it adds a nice touch to the dining experience.

The service was excellent, and the food came out fresh and perfectly cooked. I ordered the Susie Q cheeseburger with fries, and both were outstanding. The burger was juicy and flavorful, and the fries were fresh, crispy, and seasoned just right. Don’t skip the hot sauce—it’s delicious and adds the perfect kick!

Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for great food and friendly service in a relaxed setting.

We decided to spend the night in Jackson on our trip from Texas to Georgia, and I wanted to try something local near our downtown hotel. We chose The Hen & Egg. It’s tucked inside what used to be the old Sands Hotel, and the original vintage sign out front gives off a cool 1950s–60s vibe.

The space itself is very small—just a few tables near the kitchen, some bar seating, and a couple more tables that looked like they were set up in what used to be the hotel lobby. It’s a cozy, interesting spot with a lot of character.

The hostess who seated us was very friendly, but our waitress was new and accidentally forgot to put in our order. After about twenty minutes, the hostess noticed we still didn’t have food. When our meal finally came out, it wasn’t exactly what we ordered, but we decided to roll with it.

The food itself was good—solid breakfast fare—but probably not quite worth the $40 tab. Overall, I’m glad we tried it for the experience and the local flavor, but we’ll probably check out another spot on our next trip through Jackson.
