We’ve come here three times now. Every time, we’ve found the food to be consistently delicious. I was pleasantly surprised because the taste felt authentic and homemade. The worst food I had in the recent times. I was visiting Dunedin and had a decent expectation about the quality from the reviews they have. However, I’m totally disappointed with the taste of the food, I hardly got 4-5 pieces of meat and the casava was poor in quality and not cooked enough. I couldn’t even eat the food as it is not even close enough to what a ‘Kappa Biriyani’ is and had to order from another place. Never going back here again.

The owner is crazy, charging us regular price but providing fine dining service.
We ordered an entree and a main to share. He gave us 2 hot plates before giving us the entree, providing a hot plate is already good service.
After finishing the entree, he collected the entree and our plates, and GAVE US NEW HOT PLATES. That’s a service i have not experience in this price range for my entire life!
He is super friendly and polite as well.

We loved our dinner. The starter dishes were delicious and there was plenty of food. The curries were also delicious but the stand out was the garlic naan – Smokey, flakey and fresh. The service was great too, with small touches like heated plates. Will definitely be back.

Authentic South Indian food especially Kerala traditional dishes. They have buffet too on some days. I have had south Indian food in Auckland and Christchurch as well but Malabar Magic, Dunedin is by far the best. Reasonable rates. Super tasty. Excellent value for money. Must visit.

The food here is absolutely delicious! We tried the Chicken Biryani, Kerala Beef Fry, and Chicken 65 – all were full of flavor and cooked perfectly.
