I went there for dinner and found the environment to be fair. Parking was convenient.
However, I think the name is misleading because “all-you-can-eat” typically indicates a buffet-style setup. That is not the case here. Instead, you must order sushi from the menu, and the chef prepares and serves each item fresh. Each order comes with 10–12 pieces of the same roll. As a result, you may feel full after just one or at most two items. It becomes extremely difficult to sample more than two selections due to the large portion sizes unless you come in a 5/6 or larger group.
The menu also states that you will be penalized if more than three pieces of sushi are left uneaten. In general, I agree with the principle of not wasting food, even in a buffet setting. However, my concern is the portion size. The rule would make more sense if patrons were able to control the portion sizes themselves.
Pros:
Freshly made sushi
Cons:
Portion sizes are too large to sample multiple sushi options
The price is too high for the value provided. For a $45 all-you-can-eat option, you would expect better variety, including selections of sashimi, sushi, and nigiri
I see many positive reviews for this place, but perhaps the chef should consider dropping the “all-you-can-eat sushi” label altogether.
Bottom line: I do not recommend this place if you are looking for a traditional all-you-can-eat or buffet-style experience.
Restaurant’s Reply: … The reason there’s a $15.00 uneaten charge is so customers don’t over order than what they can handle when eating all you can eat. Unfortunately some may take advantage if this rule is not set in placed. This is a common practice with all you can eat and buffets.
My response: This is an unpopular practice in Asia… Not in America the other person ordered only 2 things off the menu and unbeknownst to them, an excessive amount of rice was put into the food which resulted in them getting fuller faster and was unable to finish his last few pieces. The point you totally missed about all this was the part about being wasteful, yet you use a “common practice” trying to get more money out of the people for it. If you wish more customers to continue frequenting this spot, you need to remember what country you’re operating in. In all of my years in Alaska (and I’ve lived in Asia for several years too), you’re the first ever restaurant to apply a $15 uneaten charge here. Common practice you say? It’s actually and FACTually not especially in Alaska. You simply brought a very unpopular practice from another country and trying to normalize it here and in turn take advantage of the customers and counting on them not to notice the excessive rice ratio you apply to your sushi.
