This was the first fancy restaurant my parents took me to when i was a kid 20 some years ago. A premium steakhouse with a full dining room, top-notch service and an excellent steak. Today, not so much.

We have returned many times and continued to watch this place slowly go down hill and last night was our last visit to the Butler Inn.

For starters, the house cab was worse than an Aldi wine. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and it was inedible. Completely over-fried, chewy and stale. You could taste how old the fryer oil was, many weeks without being changed. Our waitress did nothing, not even offer us an opportunity to order something else, just took the food and ignored us for probably 20-30 minutes.

The water was disgusting. Hundreds of little floaters swirling around in our glass so you can tell the water pitchers aren’t being cleaned whatsoever.

The steak: i have always gotten the 16oz louie and it was fine, nothing special. Flavor was decent and meat quality was just ok. The “haystack” onion strings were closer to an onion ring and rather soggy.

The dessert tasted like a basic sysco, off the shelf slice of cheesecake. You can definitely get better food with better elsewhere for sure, not coming back.

The waitstaff are amazing, the bartender was also amazing, the taste of the food was good. We had a reservation, arrived early we’re offered our table immediately if we wanted it early. We were sat on time after having a drink at the bar. Highly recommend the blush wines! Consistently having water refilled, waitstaff is on the ball! However, as soon as we were sat and plates were being removed, my plate was stuck to the table with a chewed up piece of gum. This was immediately remedied with a new table cloth, all new place settings, and we were given two complementary glasses of wine. The server was great about it, amazing server! The onion tangler appetizer was very under cooked, decided to just bring home to reheat properly. When we received our steaks; mine was ordered medium, it came out rare, my husband ordered a bone in ribeye medium rare, he received a boneless cooked medium well. Still definitely charged for the bone-in. The flavor of the steaks, amazing! How they were prepared though… After reading reviews, we are not the first to experience this. Do not recommend the Santa Rita wines, maybe we had a bad batch, but tasted like shoe polish smells. And we do love wine. We just ate the food, after already complaining once for the gum we didn’t want to again, choked down the wine, enjoyed the atmosphere, paid and left. We really, really wanted to give a 5 star from the beginning due to the extremely high bill we would have, but one thing after another, sadly it’s just a 3.

We had the surf and turf special and it was amazing. The salads were large and the heap of onion rings were perfect to accompany the filet. The lobster was tender and cooked perfectly. It was a lot of food and we were very satisfied. The Saganaki was sooo good, but a tad over priced. Service was impeccable. Atmosphere relaxing. We will definitely be back soon!

Love the place. It is spacious and has big windows. The only problem is the view. The parking lot isn’t beautiful. The fish fry was solid. 2 pieces of battered cod. Alternative to cod was a nice breaded perch. Neither of these were outstanding, but they were really good. Luckily, we hit a home run with the saganaki appetizer. Cheese on fire at the table! Awesome presentation and phenomenal flavor. Served with pita bread. The other thing that stood out was the chicken dumpling soup. I want to come back for some other apps and entree’s. Service was excellent at the bar as well as the table.

We celebrated a birthday with friends and she chose Butler Inn for her special meal. Our 5:30 reservation found the place empty but not for long. The Saganaki was tasty as an appetizer but I thought it was a bit high priced although it was a large serving for 3. Our steaks and Ribeye were cooked perfectly and the unusual choice of hash browns was also a good option. Every dish came with crispy onions, soup or salad and side dish choice also. A slice of cheesecake for dessert ended a good meal on a high note. It seemed that there was one server and one busser so when it got busy they were hard to call over, but seemed to get the job done in the end.
We were told about the 3.5% credit card fee added to the bill so I suggest you pay with cash since the bill is not small so the fee isn’t either. With tax and tip we hit $300 for three women.
Although the evening was warm they have closed off the outdoor seating for the season. Too bad as it seems a bit early for that. But the inside atmosphere is nice and worth a visit.
Plenty of free parking and an inside lift with weight limitations check ahead if you need accessibility.

A server called in sick this evening we were told, so it took a while to get us seated and we were 25 mins past the scheduled reservation time, however when our server got assigned to us she was FANTASTIC and she took care of everything. Crème brûlée was on special and is my all time favorite dessert. This one was overcooked. The bread, salads, saganaki and steaks were fantastic! Skip dessert and it will be great!

I scheduled the Waukesha Sunrise Rotary Club’s Christmas dinner here. The food was good and well prepared. We had a private area in which to mingle and dine. Our waitress, Leah, was wonderful. The owner was easy to work during the whole experience. Everyone enjoyed the evening.

Service was fine and friendly, but the food and ambiance was not. Frustrated with places that charge $60+ for a steak just because the words “Filet Mignon” appear on their menu. My wife’s food was OK but my burger was unseasoned, bun was soggy, the lettuce was wilted (with a mushy pickle spear) w/ the martini as, effectively, a shot of vodka. $90 later….If this restaurant, painted dark aqua on the interior, which I believe has some history to the area, was ever ‘fine dining’, the standards have decreased. More place to watch a game then a date night / steak dinner

Butler Inn is a neighborhood restaurant that I have frequented because of its closeness but also the fact that every time I go the food is outstanding. Everything is always cooked exactly how I’ve ordered and with a smile from the servers. Absolutely a spot you need to try!!

If you’re not a table of alcoholics don’t expect to see your server. Food was bland and void of being anything but being “pretty good” for a table of seven. Skip the Saganaki cheese and just buy a frozen cheese pizza. Do not order the “steak sandwich” unless you’re interested in a puck of steak served on two pieces of toast. The only thing this place will do is drain your wallet and have you stopping at Kwik Trip on your way home because your still hungry.
