Driving home my wife and I were getting hungry and searched out this place which had good reviews. When we entered we were immediately met with a friendly hostess. We were seated and we loved the warm vibe of this old time bar. I had the ruben with seasoned fries. Fries were great and would give the sandwich an 8. No less than six of the staff asked if they could help or if we had been taken care of. If we are ever back through we will stop in.

We ordered the blackened salmon, catfish, and ribeye, and every single dish was absolutely delicious! Each entrée was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The salmon had a great seasoning, the catfish was tender and tasty, and the ribeye was juicy and satisfying. You can really tell they know what they’re doing in the kitchen!

Even the side salads were surprisingly amazing ✨ — fresh, flavorful, and a perfect complement to the main dishes. It’s always a bonus when the sides are just as impressive as the entrées.

The restaurant itself is located in a beautifully restored old building, which gives it such a unique and fun atmosphere ️ . The vibe is warm, inviting, and makes the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal and a cool setting!

Everything was really good. The jambalaya was too salty. The catfish was great. Those sweet potatoe fries??? Bay-beeee!!! Those were the star of the show with the marshmallow sauce! And the bartender made the perfect dirty martini ,(didn’t get his name though) overall good experience just salty jambalaya. I don’t feel a need to take a star off because everything was great a lil too much salt was the only complaint. OH and the hush puppies were FANTASTIC!

Went this past Saturday and was highly disappointed. We got seated, drinks ordered, waited a little to order. Then it took over an hour for our pasta only for it to be lukewarm. Very sad for high priced meals. I get places get busy but waiting that long for cold food is unacceptable.

Probably one of the best restaurants in town!

Here for dinner with my son we’re both out of towners. Very cool restaurant vibe inside and very friendly servers.

My son loved his burger and I loved my catfish AU Veloute.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you give them a try.

They have a fun variety of foods and I’ve never had a bad service experience. Their prices are a little high for the general community but I think of it more as a fun every once in a while splurge. I love their red pepper and smoked Gouda soup!

A Night of Culinary Delights and Heartwarming Hospitality in Marshall
Marshall may be a charming Midwest town, but tonight, I experienced a dining scene worthy of the big city. My tastebuds were tantalized by the charbroiled chicken, its smoky perfection enhanced by the vibrant asparagus and cauliflower. Each bite was a symphony of juicy chicken, crisp vegetables, and the subtle kiss of char. And unsweetened tea, chilled and refreshing, cut through the savory flavors like a cool melody.

But the true star of the evening was our server, Lori Lexie. Attentive, friendly, and efficient, she moved with the grace of a seasoned conductor, orchestrating a flawless dining experience. It was more than just her professionalism; it was her genuine warmth and enthusiasm that made us feel like honored guests. And what an honor it was to have the chef himself deliver our food, his smile radiating through the kitchen heat.

My companions, Uncle Tom and Terry, opted for the monumental burgers – towering testaments to culinary prowess. I wouldn’t be surprised if those burgers had their own zip code!

But beyond the exceptional food and service, something deeper struck me. The atmosphere buzzed with life, but a gentle hum of contentment. Two tables, one a group of friends, the other a family celebrating, radiated genuine joy. The television at the bar played softly, not competing with the conversations and laughter. Even the fantastical art, a familiar landmark of the space, took on a new glow, whispering stories of community and shared experiences.

In that moment, I realized I wasn’t just in a restaurant. I was in a portal to a time when Westport in Kansas City was the epicenter of fine dining and genuine connection. The Leaning Side isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an experience, a beacon of culinary excellence and heartwarming hospitality in the heart of Marshall.

Culinary and Cultural Journey at The Leaning Side: A Feast for the Senses in Marshall, Missouri

My recent visit to The Leaning Side in Marshall, Missouri, wasn’t just a meal; it was an experience. From the delectable dishes to the captivating decor, every element wove together to create a truly unforgettable evening.

Let’s start with the food:

Mom’s French Onion Bread Bowl Soup: Warm, cheesy perfection. The flavorful broth, caramelized onions, and crusty bread bowl were a delight for every spoonful.

Terry’s 14 oz Top Sirloin Steak: Cooked to a juicy medium-rare, this steak was a carnivore’s dream. Tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, it left Terry thoroughly satisfied.

My Blackened Grilled Chicken with Double Vegetable: The star of the show for me was the blackened chicken. The smoky, Cajun-inspired spice blend paired beautifully with the grilled asparagus and cauliflower. The vegetables, charred just right, retained their freshness and added a delightful crunch to the dish.

But the food was just the beginning:

Spinach and Artichoke Dip & Chips: This. This was divine. Light, crispy chips dipped into the creamiest, artichoke-studded spinach dip I’ve ever encountered. Seriously, folks, this dip is life-changing.

The Decor: Now, this is where The Leaning Side takes a truly unique turn. The walls are adorned with a collection of oil paintings, many of which feature nudes in evocative poses. It’s not your typical restaurant fare, but the curation is tasteful and the overall effect is surprisingly intimate and intriguing.

Combining such bold culinary choices with unexpected art created an atmosphere unlike anything I’ve experienced before. It was a conversation starter, a cultural escape, and a testament to the restaurant’s willingness to be different.

If you’re looking for a memorable dining experience in Marshall, Missouri, The Leaning Side is a must-try. Be prepared for surprises, both on your plate and on the walls, and be ready to have your senses tantalized.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

P.S. Don’t miss the spinach and artichoke dip! Trust me, it’s worth the trip alone.

I come here whenever I’m visiting family in Marshall and it is consistently good! I always get the grilled portabella sandwich. This trip, I came later in the evening with just my husband, sister, sister in law and stepbrother to sit at the bar and have cocktails. We had a great time hanging out, trying different drinks and chatting with Riley! I had the peanut butter whiskey drink with a whole egg and it was delicious. Bonus points for freaking out my siblings with the raw egg thing. Riley is super fun and knowledgeable and I hope she’s back there next summer too! Great cocktails and food for the next time you’re in Marshall!
