First time visiting! Baked Chicken, mac n cheese, and sweet potatoes with a corn muffin. Sweet potatoes had a bit too much spice for my liking. Other than that food was hot and flavorful. “I’ll be back” -The Terminator

We were looking for something different and found it at Down Home Elegance. They do mostly carry out, but they did let us and some others eat in. The food was very good. The turkey ribs were smoked, and they were , yes, I said turkey ribs. Go ask em were the rib comes from, and they’ll tell you. The wing was baked, but it was good. The Yams were cooked perfectly. I would have liked a little more flavor in my greens, but they are not using any pork in them, for you all that don’t eat pork. The cornbread dressing was just that, nothing super special. The food is good and satisfying, and I would recommend them as a go-to because we will go again. Also, I had a piece of Carrot Cake, of course, I ate it no picture. Give them a try if you ate ever in North St. Louis off I270, just before crossing back into Illinois. Very nice people, which is as important as the food.

If you are in a rush, don’t go. There was a line, but it was well worth the wait. I have not been disappointed anytime I have gone. The serving portions are double what you get a majority of the place I’ve been to that serve would food. The staff is always friendly. No one can beat their prices for what they give you ❤️♥️

My first time here. Went on a Sunday and got lucky that it wasnt crowded. I walked in and the first thing I noticed was the AC was NOT working. I got the short ribs, mac n cheese, sweet potatoes, greens, hot water cornbread, and peach cobbler. Only the ribs and cobbler were good. The greens had no seasoning or meat and were mushy. The sweet potatoes had way too much cinnamon and nutmeg, the mac n cheese was creamy but not cheesy, and the cornbread tasted old. I was hoping I had found a new soul food go to spot but the quest continues.

Honestly, I am torn between opinions. I appreciate the soul food and for the most part my turkey meatloaf meal was delicious. I have been several times and always tip. I asked for a little more gravy on my dressing because it is only good with the gravy and I was told I was given the proper serving. What happened to making the customer happy. It cost $19 for a turkey meatloaf meal with 2 sides and I was denied a little extra gravy!! Not to mention I bought a chicken wing meal and a whole brisket meal. I spent 68 dollars for 3 plates and I couldn’t get a little extra gravy. Now, it may be petty of me, but I won’t be back anymore. I think it’s petty of the server to deny me extra gravy. I mean, really. I would have paid for it.
