I stumbled upon The Port Oysteria & Brewery when scrolling Google Maps to discover restaurants and spontaneously went with a coworker after work. Surprisingly, there was no wait (we’re used to lines when going out after work) and service was both friendly and quick. A live musician played popular hits on his instruments then switched to singing after his break. The menu was a small booklet that offered many items we were interested in but did confuse at first due to inconsistency with each menu (changes out of order, in different orders.) We ordered the crab dip and fries appetizers, both arrived hot and delicious that we devoured quickly. We got a half dozen oysters, and regretted not ordering more. Then came our entrees of the crab cakes and scallop curry. The crab cakes were exactly as I like them – not too bready, soft enough to break apart with a fork and worn shredded not chunks of crab. I added some to the dip just for extra pieces. The corn hash reminded me of potato salad which is something I don’t like that but I did finish the crab cakes and two sauces. The curry my coworker said was good but flavor wise, was one note and scallops were just over cooked. Overall, lovely experience and we both would love to go again with intentions of ordering mostly oysters and appetizers. My family devoured the leftover crab dip and already making plans to visit the restaurant to try for themselves.

I surprised to know that had Happy hour on Sunday. The food was amazing the crab and shrimp dip is an absolute. Must have. I ordered the fried oysters and shrimp with fries as my main course and couldn’t finish it. The service good I am definitely returning.

I have been here 3 separate times with the last 6 months and each time was seriously not great. So the hosts/wait staff are amazing. Food itself is usually pretty good in taste/flavor. But everything in between is absolutely crap. Food/Drink items, they are constantly out of and you aren’t made aware of until after you order and have been waiting for a moment. Food/drinks always being brought to the wrong tables. Or double up orders which I guess can be a happy accident (most of the time it seems to be alcohol drinks that are doubled up) The oysters are amazing according to my boyfriend but every entree doesn’t even come close. 2/3 times we’ve been here a manager is constantly making rounds either listening to complaints or checking the quality of things. As I’m writing this we’ve been here for 2.5 hours. There was some sort of system error and orders started backing up. I’m starting to think a lot of the issues are behind the scenes and or in the kitchen. It’s a shame because like I said the wait staff/hosts and actual taste of the food is great. Our waitress Madison was seriously the best and so was the male trainee with her. Very attentive, friendly and on top of their game.

Stopped by on a Saturday for lunch. We hadn’t been here before so we decided to give it a try. They weren’t busy, so we were seated right away, and our drink order was taken promptly. A few minutes later the drinks arrived and we ordered our food. From there, it went downhill in a big way. A lobster grilled cheese sandwich and fish tacos should never take 45 minutes to serve! To be fair, the food was okay. Not great but okay. If it had been served in a relatively timely fashion, I probably would have just thought it was an off day. After reading other reviews it seems that slow service is more common than not. Once we were finally served, it took quite some time for our server to bring the bill. When she finally did bring it, we handed her the card before she could leave the table. She then proceeded to walk behind the bar and make drinks for other customers. 25 minutes later, she returned with our card so we could sign the check and leave. We didn’t complain or make any comments, but we both agreed that this won’t be in our regular rotation of restaurants downtown.

Amazing service by Crystal tonight! Loved the crab cakes and the fresh oysters. New go to spot for seafood. Highly underrated gem in downtown Fredericksburg. Melanie was a delight. Rarely do you see managers talking to the guests anymore. She made us feel very welcome.

Love the ambiance and the vibe. Definitely a great addition to the downtown Fredericksburg area.

A few things that I can agree with from other’s opinions in the reviews that really need to be tuned up.

Waiting for a waitress should not take 10 minutes after initial sit down, at least not with those prices.

If someone orders a steak, it should automatically come with a steak knife. We shouldn’t be waiting for the steak knife as our food is getting cold at the table. Steak needs seasoning, period the onions saved it. The asparagus and the crispy hot potatoes were excellent.

My daughter got the lobster roll. Plenty of lobster A+ however, like someone else said, it was the driest lobster roll we’ve ever had. Please, please consider making a lemon herb butter sauce or something to make it worth ordering.

The apple bourbon bread pudding, was a little underwhelming and not as appealing to the eye compared to others I’ve had. To be honest, the ice cream saved it.

All in all it was a pretty good experience. I would definitely try again and I really want to see this spot excel. We need this, BAD! Now if we could get a little jazz lounge going that would be great!!

We’ve used Port Oysteria and Brewery for several office events, and they have been absolutely exceptional every time. Their team is incredibly accommodating and helpful. On just a week’s notice, they put together a fully customized scotch tasting in a private room, complete with a personalized menu and even our logo, which felt like something we had been planning for months.

They also hosted a fantastic Christmas gathering for our team, and it was truly amazing. The food was outstanding, and for a group of 20, the service was seamless..everything came out hot, delicious, and at the same time. The private room is perfect, with doors that create a truly intimate, exclusive feel.

15/10 would recommend! We can’t wait to host many more events at Port Oysteria and Brewery.

If you’re in downtown FXBG, you definitely need to stop in for a bite and a pint at The Point Oysteria & Brewery! The service and the food are nothing short of AMAZING. There are ten beers on tap made at here and all the food is freshly made on site with the best ingredients!

Our bartender, Brad, was totally awesome. Very knowledgeable and a food pusher so be ready! As it was our first time here, he went into great detail for our food and drinks, which is always appreciated!

Sonny also stopped by to chat us up about some football (soccer) and shared some of his favorite drinks here as well!

Do yourself a favor and stop in. Happy Hour 3-6 M-Sat and Sunday 1-6. Come and enjoy the food and the atmosphere! We will DEFINITELY be back!

Thanks Brad and Sonny!
