After a full day of hiking through the stunning red rocks of Garden of the Gods and the waterfalls at Seven Falls, we stumbled upon the Mad Hatter Saloon, and what a find it was!

We kicked things off with a Bloody Mary that hit all the right notes…bold, zesty, and perfectly garnished. From there, the food sealed the deal. The BBQ ribs and brisket were smoked to perfection…tender, flavorful, and clearly fresh from the pit. The brisket tacos brought a creative and delicious twist, packing in all the smoky goodness with a Tex-Mex vibe.

We sat in the outdoor bar area, surrounded by Colorado mountain air and good energy. The atmosphere was made even better by the firepits and Adirondack chairs crafted from old skis and snowboards—such a fun and unique touch that gives the place a local, adventurous charm.

And we can’t forget to mention Larry, the fantastic bartender (might have been the owner). His warm welcome, great conversation, and attention to every detail made the experience even more memorable. You can tell he puts heart into this place, and it shows!

If you’re in the area, make sure to stop by the Mad Hatter Saloon. Great drinks, incredible food, and a vibe that perfectly blends mountain-town charm with laid-back hospitality.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food selection and layout of this little place. I grew up in Cascade, so I remember when this building was a convenience store, then a southwestern market-type shop, then the best little taco stand. I’m not gonna lie, I was heartbroken when the taco place shut down. So, naturally, it took me over a year to try the Mad Hatter, but I’m impressed! I figured it was a typical bar with a tiny menu, but that wasn’t the case. I saw a few people eating, and the food looked fantastic. The only thing I “ate” was the Bloody Mary fixins, but that was truly a small meal. The views and the company were great; mountain views and mostly Harley riders & tourists. There’s plenty of outdoor seating. Overall, it’s a great little spot to get some sunshine, even on a winter day.

My wife and were coming back from a mountain trip and decided to forgo breakfast where we were staying and instead get something on different on the way home. A quick Google search landed us at the Mad Hatter Saloon.

We pulled up and wondered what we were in for as it looks like a biker bar of some kind on the side of a busy highway. It’s alright, we may not fit in, but we were there.

We got inside and the gentleman told us we could sit wherever we’d like so we took a seat at small four-top near to the small kitchen. The barkeep/waiter brought us a menu and took our drink order.

The menu was small and concise and we decided to stick with breakfast. We were hungry and greedy so, quite literally, we order one of everything from the short breakfast menu.

The food came out relatively quickly and looked pretty good. While it came out on paper plates and trays, it befitted the establishment and actually presented well the perfectly prepared food which was on it. The biscuits and gravy are a must if you go. The gravy was just the right consistency with perfect seasoning that was both sweet and peppery. The Mad Hatter french toast was a bit unexpected. Seemed to be a lemon poppyseed bread that was almost like a muffin which was cooked in french toast batter. A bit sweet, but different enough that it kept us engaged. The breakfast tacos were also great. They cooked the outside of the soft tortillas so they were just barely crunchy and they help the contents of the taco firmly and with fear that they would fall apart.

The barkeep was busy, but he was very friendly and attentive even though he was running around a lot. We’d stop back in if we were in the area again.

Mad Hat’s off to the cooks.

Ok, I’m from upstate New York, but, I ordered the wings. After getting the big, crispy, juicy wings I was in disbelief.

I spoke to the owner and found out he has ties to upstate NY.

My wife had the pork ribs, so Smokey and delicious. I loved their home made spicy BBQ sauce.

I would come back to this area just to see what this place is like on a Friday Saturday!

PS
Crazy good Bloody Mary!

Fantastic wait staff, friendly and super on top of things. Seasoning on the burger was good and the fries were delicious.
I am a huge Alice in Wonderland fan so the biggest pro for me was all the Alice artwork on the walls (and ceiling)

We’ve driven by a 100 times and finally stopped- glad we did! Our bartender/server was slammed on the 4th of July and still rocked. Love that they have local beers on tap.

Came for the bloodys, stayed for the breakfast burrito. Excellent bloody marys and the burrito we had was great. The staff was very helpful, attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was cool too. It’s probably jumping in the summer. We’ll be back next time we’re in the area. Definitely!

Huge YES to everything about this place. First time trying it with a friend yesterday after a snowy hike. Can’t wait to come back with my family. I heard the bloody mary’s were the best around & holy cow they did not disappoint!! But even better than that was the AMAZING service. I’ve never seen such a cheerful, happy & kind staff. It was like going to visit friends who hadn’t seen you in a long time & they were so excited to have you there! The food was absolutely delicious too!

We stopped in on our way out of town, and Dennis, the owner was absolutely phenomenal and accommodating. Even on his day off, he still went out of his way to make sure our experience was five stars and then some. It is a new business, they opened in June/July, so stop in and show your support to this awesome place!
