My favorite DQ in the area!!!!
The Service is where this Dairy Queen shines.
I LOVE that when I walk in with a smile, I am greeted with one from each of the 3 regular staff in return. I can tell they recognize me and welcome me as a return customer and that makes a difference. It just makes my day better.
Atmosphere: The building is wonky – food on one side, ice cream on the other. This is no complaint against the current owners. The building was built looong before they owned it and would be excessively expensive to revamp – so they make it work.
Side note to be aware: Some people may be a bit frustrated with the language barrier, but this is no problem if you speak clearly, have patience, and basic human kindness. If you have hearing issues or trouble with speech, I would suggest ordering inside, as it is easier to communicate in person. Speaking from experience working fast food in the past – the headsets aren’t always clear so it can be difficult to get orders correct without a language barrier – especially if your vehicle is loud or there is a lot of outside noise. I prefer to order inside or on the app. If you can’t be patient, go elsewhere – the workers here don’t deserve any disrespect.
Food: Of course, the food is great! I have never had a bad order. Your typical DQ comfort food.
Having a bad day? – ice cream makes it better.
Having a good day? – celebrate with ice cream.
Can’t keep your eyes open at work? – I recommend a mocha moolatte for that punch of caffeine to get you through the work day.
Didn’t pack your lunch & you’re nearly broke? – the 2 for $5 deal is a win! Cheeseburger & Pretzel Sticks are my favorite!
Conclusion: Thank you for keeping me from being hangry at work. You all are so dedicated to providing your regular customers with excellent service. I appreciate that you took over this DQ and kept it going in Gillespie. Keep smiling! Happy tastes good!

Our order was made faster than we could make it to the drive up window. So, our order was delivered to us in the line. This was a pleasant surprise.
However, the restaurant has lost its charm. The once warm and inviting appeal of this Dairy Queen has become sterile and gloomy. The outside also lost its vivid distinction. It’s easy to drive by and wonder if it’s open. The lobby is dark, and the outdoor lights are dim. The old speakers at the drive-through make the attendant sound like a Peanuts adult, which complicates ordering.
I’ve been going to this restaurant for longer than I’d like to admit. In my lifetime, I’ve seen it go through 3 different owners. It would be great to see the most recent ones put some new life into this old restaurant. It has an interesting history as it was built on the old city pool site, and it would be a shame not to share it.

I got lost on the way home to Springfield from the Edwardsville area, and wondered into this DQ. I had some amazing food, and immediately the people behind the counters where a great help. They got in Google maps, sent me to Litchfield and then home. If I ever pass by again, I’ll be sure to have another meal. It meant genuinely so much to be in such a friendly place to give me directions. Thank all of you so much.

Absolutely horrible place to eat. Cost WAY too much for what you get and the quality of food. Since owners changed, it’s runned down. The charge you for the 6 piece chicken strips and only give you four. When in a few weeks ago and smelt like straight sewer gas. You really think you should be serving food that way? You’ll never get a cent of my money again.

Food is good, but you all need to take it easy on the cleaning supplies. There has to be cleaning supplies either open or being used in close proximity to the food. So far, I’ve noticed the bread, buns and brownies taste like pinesol.

Even when school let’s out next door, they are on top of the orders. Happy they are so close to me when I got an itch for a good burger. Cheese curds were awesome too. Looks like y’all got a good staff going on!
