I had tandoori chicken, chilli chicken and biryani with a couple of Indian beers and I really enjoyed every single bite of the dish. My first visit has placed this one on top of my list of favorite Indian restaurants.
Top notch food, elegant atmosphere, and friendly staff – Highly recommend, I am definitely going back!
This is about the most authentic Indian food I have had in the US, certainly at par with offerings in the NY/NJ/South Bay areas and definitely better than most in the San Mateo area. We have been ordering from them since the day they opened as Pastries and Chat, then changed to Mirchi. We have never been disappointed by their quality. We do find the food a tad bit spicy, but we started ordering ‘mild’ and its perfect.
Some reviewers note that the prices have gone up lately. Yes, they may have (as is the case with most other restaurants in the area), but I’ll gladly pay the extra ~$1-2/dish for their unbeatable quality, authenticity, and generous portions.
A special shout out to their catering team – we ordered for our son’s rice ceremony and all our guests simply loved the food. To decide the outlet, we did a simple test – we ordered the exact same to-go meal from three ‘highly-rated’ Indian joints in the San Mateo area, and from Mirchi (they just changed from Pastries and Chat, and only had few reviews/ratings). The quality/quantity/price from Mirchi simply blew every other offering out of the water!
During our catering order, the owner Raghu helped us design our menu and portions. We wanted to have a fish dish, so the chef went out of his way to create a spicy fish appetizer (Masala Fish Fry), which was a huge hit with our guests. The reviews were so positive that this dish is now part of Mirchi’s regular menu! It is also the one item we sadly didn’t click pictures.
They can definitely improve in the chaat department but. , will have to try more options to form an opinion in the chaats section.
The samosa chaat had yogurt! And Pav Bhaji was awful too, the bhaji was just mixed veg curry.
I would never visit this place again. Totally disappointed.
After today’s food both idli & tandoori I have thought to myself u should not depend on Yelp reviews alone but to really go & try yourself.
Coming back again to try their full menu especially on a lazy day to cook and crave for good indian food.
Moreover rotis, even though over priced at 5$ were cold and rubber like.
Would never recommend this place to anyone
