Last evening, I visited Taste of Bengal in Norristown for dinner with four friends, and it turned out to be a truly memorable experience. Finding authentic Bengali food in this area is not easy, and this place absolutely delivered.
We ordered an extensive spread that included vegetable cutlet, mochar chop, fish chop, mughlai paratha, mutton biryani, chicken kassa, mutton kassa, and rui macher kalia. Every single dish was delicious and tasted incredibly authentic—rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care and the right spices. From the perfectly cooked biryani to the comforting depth of the kassa and the classic flavors of the fish dishes, all of us loved the food. It was 100% worth the 45‑minute drive to get there.
While the restaurant could definitely use some improvement in terms of ambience and speed of service, the quality of the food more than made up for it. The servers were very friendly, caring, and courteous, which made us feel welcome throughout the meal. The owner was also extremely friendly and helpful, personally taking care of everything we needed over the phone, which added a very personal touch to the experience.
Overall, if you are looking for truly authentic and delicious Bengali food, Taste of Bengal is a gem. We will definitely be going back again and highly recommend the food to anyone who misses home-style Bengali cuisine or wants to experience it at its best.

An awesome place to have authentic Bengali Food. Owner is so helpful to guide us as he is out of state. Being a bengali we understand how challenging it is to run an authentic bengali restaurant across multiple locations. Its like a hidden gem, Hilsa VAPA, Golda Malaikari, Beetroot chop, Mochar Chop – felt like we are eating in Bojho Hori Manna in Kolkata. The Quality of fish is superlative. Dont know why didnt get to know this before. Talked to the owner, they supply food all big pujas across different states in East coast as well. Really pleased to be here. Monthly once at least will be here.

It included mutton curry, chicken kababs, rice, aloo puri, papad, daal, vegetable curry, shrimp curry, another fish item, and dessert — truly a fantastic combination of so many classic Bengali dishes. The portion was easily enough for two people, and every item had authentic flavor. The mutton and chicken dishes were the highlights for us: rich, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The fish items could have been a bit better, but still enjoyable overall.
We also ordered chicken kabab with naan. The kabab was customized according to our preference, and the naan was excellent — soft, fresh, and aromatic. The pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the variety and quantity of food.
Now, a few things to keep in mind: the restaurant needs improvement in cleanliness. Some areas, including a table fan and parts of the furniture, had visible dirt and wear-and-tear. The bathroom could have been cleaner as well. Also, food preparation takes time — they likely make everything from scratch, which is great for taste, but you need patience. The thali must be ordered ahead of time; we called an hour early and it worked out fine.

We have been ordering from ToB right around the time from when they started serving the greater philadelphia area … The biryani has really evolved to become almost at par with some of the best eateries from Kolkata at present! ( especially the mutton ! Always tender , moist and flavourful! ) . Other highlights include Katla Kaliya , Sorshe Illish , Chicken cutlet , beetroot chop! People from west bengal , craving for food from back home , are guranteed to be thoroughly satisfied with their quality! All the best! Keep up the steller work !

On Saturday (Feb 14) I called the owner in the morning around 11:30 to confirm that we can arrive for Dine In around 3:30 PM – when he confirmed it is actually a very appropriate timing considering the morning rush of rDelivery Orders.
Come 3:40 PM when we entered the restaurant (after a drive of 1 Hr 30 mins), we were greeted by a very rude old looking kitchen employee, who not only drove us out and took frustration over the huge delivery orders he is dealing with and lack of employees in the kitchen.
Ofcourse the Owner was nowhere to be seen around and the employee cursed him being Out of State and not available. When we tried to tell him about our call earlier – he was showing a very dirty and unhygienic kitchen space behind him with things lying across everywhere including bags of Potatos at the entrance. He was trying to convince us that it is humanly impossible for anyone to serve any customers – even if we were confirmed by the “Boss” (as he mentioned).
We eventually ended up going to a different Indian restaurant with a fantastic ambiance and lot better food and impeccable customer service.
Do yourself a favor- PLEASE do NOT visit this restaurant if you are not close enough to go back when being refused entry. If you are good with delivery Orders – you should be fine which is my guess. But This is NOT the place for Dine-In Experience in a nice ambiance.
Never going back again.
