I tried out Mali Thai in Oro Valley, AZ today from a friend’s recommendation. I don’t eat at a lot of Thai restaurants but I was very impressed with Mali Thai. Staff were friendly and responsive. The restaurant was clean and quiet and not crowded for a Saturday noon. It’s located in a shopping center so there’s plenty of parking available. I liked that you can choose your heat level from 0 to 4. I did the #1 and wasn’t too spicy at all. I tried a special item called Khao Soi, a kind of noodle soup, and it was very tasty with a sweet creamy broth. My companion had the Green Curry with chicken. I sampled and it was also excellent. We had a large party and it did take a bit of time to get our food but I felt it was reasonable as everything was made fresh and came very hot to our table.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience and would recommend Mali Thai. I plan to return to try out their Pad Thai soon.

Great experience eating here last night. I had Green Curry spicy level 3 (scale from 0 – 4) with shrimp. The shrimp were very large, plump, and delicious. The sauce was a creamy coconut with the right amount of spices. The service was very nice with our smiling young lady.

The service, atmosphere and food were wonderful. This is really “clean and fresh” food so no worries about not eating healthy but the flavors don’t leave you feeling like you’re missing out on something. All of the sauces totally complimented their dish and the portions were large enough to share. It is worth the drive to Rancho Vistoso , Oro Valley as your taste buds will thank you. Price is also very reasonable.

*****This review is ONLY for the service I experienced with my mother on 10/15****

Want to preface this by saying, we love Mali Thai, we get take out all the time and have turned many of my parents’ friends onto the restaurant as well i.e. we’ve sent them A LOT of business over the last three years.the service has always been stellar as well.

So I hate to write this review, but I gave it time and I’m still angry about our recent dine in experience. Long story short, my parents are both snowbirds and this particular evening, I had just picked my mom up from the airport, she was starving after traveling all day from New York. Mind you I hadn’t seen her in six months so we were looking forward to spending time and eating some good food.

So we walk in at 7:25 pm, the waitress immediately gives us the stink eye and says she needs to check with the kitchen to see if they’re still serving, despite closing at 8 PM. Now I’m aware that 35 minutes before closing is an iffy grey area, but my poor mother was starving, there were other customers still seated and everything in Oro Valley closes early with the exception of Rosati’s and TGI Fridays. So finally, the waitress says ‘OK’ just dripping with attitude, and I knew we were in for it then.

And sure enough, have never had such rude service in my life. She made us feel completely unwelcome and uncomfortable, kept looking at her phone and was going in and out of the front door for some reason while glaring at us.

My mom even gave her a cash 30% tip to try to appease her, she didn’t say a word to us and we left by 8pm on the dot, as I would’ve anyway before her obvious temper tantrum (worked in fine dining for 10 yrs, am aware of these things).

Totally ruined both our moods and am unsure my husband and I will be back for a dine-in experience. And my elderly mom said she won’t be bringing her lunch club there anymore either sadly, too risky. Yes it was that bad. This young woman should NOT be working in customer service in any capacity.

But again, the food is awesome, but if the service sucks, not going to risk wasting a rare night out to be treated with contempt.

The food is so inconsistent. I went here about a year ago and the pad thai was fantastic. I was shocked that Oro Valley had something like this. Picked up a to go order last night and the food (including the chicken) was all gray, with no sauce. Tasted like the La Croix of Thai food. Not to mention, they told me it would be ready in 15 minutes and I waited over 30 minutes. ALSO they raised their prices unbeknownst to me because they don’t have pricing on their website. I paid $58 for two pad Thai and one soup— the soup was $16!!!! The same soup that I make at home costs me $5 in fresh ingredients. The to-go containers also got super damp from the heat. Not a smart choice in containers. Thanks for $60 down the drain.

Yes! Super delicious! We will definitely return. The peanut sauce for the salad was better than any dressing I’ve ever had! And the Thai vegetables on rice entree was simply scrumptious. Selma, our waitress, was attentive, personable, and most helpful. Highly recommend!

Amazing and authentic Thai food! I always recommend this place to anybody I know heading to Tucson for the weekend. I love their Pad Thai and their noodle soup selection. Always friendly customer service every visit. This time we tried something different from our usual order and ordered the Mango Chicken we keep hearing about and it did not disappoint. I love the crispness of the chicken and the sauce was the perfect amount. I loved the Spicy Fried rice with medium spice. It had a good kick from the first to the last bite. You can taste the basil over the spice and it is delicious. The portion is pretty good for lunch and so filling. I definitely felt like I could use a nap after such an amazing meal.

Our first round of curry was pretty good! I had the panang and my bf had the Massaman. Tasty curry but needs a little depth (maybe some fish sauce). We then got a Green curry to share and it was a little disappointing. But we just took it home to liven it up a bit 🙂 anyhow our server was great! She was very kind and informative. Loved her piercings too! Seems like a nice place but it’s outta the way for us 😛

Its almost frustrating that i cannot give this place a better rating. Hear me out. Lets get the positives out of the way. The food is very clean. Healthy? Some dishes more than others. The venue is clean and bright/vibrant. For $10 the dine in portions are generous and consistently a good temperature. And that’s where it stops. How could it be 2 stars then? Well first of all the food is very clean, as in bland. Painfully so. During my first visit i forgot to order my food to be made spicy (as is one of the first things they mention on the menu that any item can be customized to your desired level of spicy) so i asked for chili and got a dry ground type of red pepper and a wet chili sauce/paste which helped wake up the food a bit. So on my second visit i tried to order my food made spicy from the kitchen and the waitress told me no? She offered some under her breath explanation about how the other patrons didnt like it (it was a predominantly older Caucasian crowd on both days) and that she would just bring me chili to spice up my food (they didnt bring me the dry seasoning this time). Why have it be an option at the very start of your menu if you are going to refuse me? They forgot to bring me a lunch salad on my 2nd visit. Another note of frustration is that they give you a very small glass of water and they dont refill it nearly fast enough. I was thirsty before, during, and after my visits! Four dishes later i can confidently say i will not be returning.
