The Hilltop was 74 years old in July 2022! Hilltop was built in 1948 by Violet Mercer Anderson. The original menu had only three meat choices-ham, fried chicken, and steak. Linen tablecloths and glass water goblets were used. The waitstaff wore long white dresses and white dress shirts with bow ties. Many proms and special events were held at HT in the 1950’s. Over the years it has been owned by several husband and wife teams, and is now owned by Dennis and Chris Grubb. They have expanded the menu and cook the old school way.

The fried chicken, biscuits, and mashed potatoes were excellent. These were all homemade. That’s where it ended unfortunately. While the new owners have carried on the Hilltop tradition of serving all side dishes family style, the corn and green beans were just from a can. The beets and simple iceberg lettuce salad were okay.

We’ve been here in the past and the food was pretty good. This time, the food was cold. The only items that were hot were the chicken and fish that were deep fried. Everything else was cold…everything; turkey entree, all the sides, even the rolls. Besides being cold, the mashed potatoes tastes like instant mashed potatoes from a box. Definitely not worth the money.

I am actually heart broken. I love this place! The service is always great, the food is always great. I especially go for the steaks. Tonight I asked for medium rare. I never send food back, but I did tonight because my steak was overcooked. I asked for a new one and was told they were low on steaks, so to eat this one or order something else. This was my valentines dinner. I have been waiting on this delicious steak that I always get . I was really shocked ! No apologies, no discount, no nothing! I ate chicken that I really didn’t want, ordered my sister 2 pieces of catfish. My husband had the chicken. $83.00 before tip very upset. I was really hoping for some kind of response here. Maybe a I’m sorry , but nothing

There were 8 in my party. I had Surf and Turf Friday night. It was excellent. Steak cooked perfectly! Others in my party said chicken was wonderful. Sides were really good, too. Only negative comment I have is the service lacks a little. If your in hurry do not go there. Overall it was a great experience.

Visiting family in town and needed a family-friendly place to eat that didn’t look and feel like a bar. This place had a warm & cozy ambiance and the food was delicious. We had fried chicken, fried catfish, and fried shrimp—all good. Sides needed salt but there was no issue to add it ourselves. Service was friendly.

I forget how I heard about this restaurant but so happy we stopped today after exploring McCormicks Creek and Cataract Falls. Delicious food. Excellent Service. Perfect place to eat after a day of hiking. We will be back!

We ate there twice. They take reservations and I recommend it on the first Friday of the month. That is prime rib night. Unfortunately they didn’t get their delivery so I did the ribeye and shrimp. It was good but steak needed more seasoning. I like their sides. So much food I didn’t have room for desert.

Still the same good, food. We have been going to Hilltop for 25+ yrs. Service was excellent. The only difference was new rolls and no Persimmon pudding. The pumpkin cheesecake was very good. Thank you Ciara!

We have never had anything but wonderful food there at lunch and dinner. Been there many times never seen a pet in the restaurant. But I question the validity of that review when he said he spent $50-$100 I’m not sure there’s anything on their menu that would make you spend $50-$100 the nearly 1pound prime rib is only $30. My husband and I can both eat there and have the fried chicken him half me a quarter and our bill is under $30. I always make reservations, and I have never waited.
