Reviews
Spoiler alert, Don’t trust the
internet
We must have gotten them on a bad day.
Like is stated most things on the internet don’t believe everything you see and only half of what you read. Because the pics and reviews were amazing.
Too be fair we did visit their Wayne location ticked away in a fairly clean BP station and not their Sterling heights flagship store, but should that have really mattered, well scruffy to what we saw online vs what we had… the answer is Yes.
Atmosphere- Don’t let the fact that the restaurant is in a gas station town throw you off, some of the greatest food in the world is served from the side of the road. But let’s not act as is if the combination of British Petroleum and Shawarma sandwiches is going to be somewhere you take your significant other for dinner. It’s still a gas station.

Service- Staff were friendly at first even though they seemed a little disorganized but we were there for the shawarma not the company.

Taste- this is where where the wheels begin to slide off the road. When you think Shawarma you envision large vertical logs of charred beef: lamb/ chicken slowly spinning while , slices are cut by hand and wrapped in a warm pita with the ubiquitous garlic and pickle.
TRIVIA
The term Shawarma roughly translates to mean “ Spinning”
The whole house should smell of Garlic sauce ( TOM) for days and forget kissing anyone , especially vampires with your breath you have earned.your hands should be coded with a thick sheet of oil and delicious grease a minefield of used nap napkins should lay in your lap or nearby.
We got that versions cousin from Ohio. Precooked meat , warmed on a flattop and served at room temperature.
The salad was your basic shawarma salad, with pickled this a pickled that and drenched in oil.
The shawarma was basic and also barely warm and lacked the punch an open fired turning spit can give you ,plus it was dry.
Even the garlic lacked the necessary punch to remind you that you are eating food from a land rich in spices and oils.
Average to below at best

Value- if the taste had the wheels leave the road then value for money , takes you over the cliff with your foot on the gas.
14-16$ for a shawarma. I would gladly pay this if it brought anything other than an Instagram following to the table. Bland, room temperature and over all average , i was very surprised by the cost.
10$- for pre packaged hummus.

If you are going to charge these prices for mediocre food you would best bring it.
The only thing Sammi bought was a lighter wallet and a sensation of knowing there are better Shawarma restaurants out there.
Would I return ?
I can’t say I’d be back to this location being that in the Canton area there are far better choices however if I find myself in Sterling Heights anytime soon and I have my step son with me I’d be willing to give it a shot , just gotta remember to bring my wallet.
The fries were seasoned and crisp, but the portion was smaller than what I usually get at the canteen. They tasted fine, but I was expecting a bit more quantity for the price. The chicken wrap was flavorful with nicely grilled bread, but the filling was on the lighter side compared to what I’m used to. At the canteen location, the wraps are usually packed and feel much more satisfying.
Another difference I noticed was the garlic paste (toom). At the canteen branch, they usually add more toom, which gives the wrap a rich and creamy flavor. At this gas station branch, the wrap had much less, which made it a little dry and not as balanced in taste.
Service was quick, and the food was decent for a grab-and-go meal, but if you want better value and taste, the canteen branch is the stronger option. Overall, an okay experience, but not the best from Amo Samis.
excellent customer service and for making my shawarma. I got the chicken fattoush sami and it was absolutely delicious. Soo fresh and flavorful and they are VERY generous with the meat and toppings. Try one for yourself—You won’t be disappointed.
