El Coquí LLC is an absolute gem in Point Lookout. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the warm, vibrant spirit of Puerto Rico—both in the atmosphere and on the plate. The menu is packed with authentic flavors that feel straight from the island.
I ordered a spicy mojito and a fried pork mofongo, and both were outstanding. The mojito had the perfect kick—refreshing, bold, and balanced with just the right amount of heat. The mofongo was everything it should be: savory, comforting, and full of that classic Puerto Rican soul. The fried pork was tender and flavorful, and the mofongo itself had that ideal texture that’s hard to find outside the island.
It’s rare to find a place that captures the true essence of Puerto Rican cuisine, but El Coquí does it effortlessly. If you’re anywhere near Callaway or Point Lookout, this spot is absolutely worth the stop. A delicious, authentic experience from start to finish.

I ate there this past Saturday with my family and the food was delicious!! Mojitos were great, the Puerto Rican moonshine “pitorro” was strong as hell. The appetizer with fried cheese was very tasteful. 5 stars on the food overall.
It was packed so the service was a little slow but we hung in there. The atmosphere was good, more could be done to help dampen the sound because it echos like crazy and when you have a bunch of ppl in there you can be speaking loudly and still not be heard.
Overall I loved it. I’m sure they’ll make this place even better once things fall into place. Great job to the staff.

A lovely cross-cultural dining experience. I let the young woman who was running the dining room know that I had never had Puerto Rican food before and she steered me to some of the traditional staples. When the food came out, she walked me through how the parts were traditionally used together (which is always a point of anxiety for me). This was not an immediate kick-in-the-face for flavor, but rather subtle flavors that stacked as the meal went on. E.g., by the end of the meal, the spice from the red-beans and rice started to persist on the palette, changing the flavor of everything else. The fried pork chop had a different texture and flavor near the bone so that it didn’t feel monotonous. My only regret is that I arrived too close to closing, so I couldn’t slow down, have a second beer, and really enjoy it. (At least not without making the staff stay over, which I have a pathological aversion to). Give yourself a good hour to hour-and-half, have a few beers and enjoy a really delightful dinner.
(Incidentally, this meal was half the price of what I paid at another local restaurant the day before, and I probably left twice as happy). Lastly, I don’t mean anything disparaging by my ‘atmosphere’ rating…this just isn’t a restaurant making its name on ambience. The dining room is a moderately elevated caffeteria-style with small tables and Puerto Rican-themed murals.

Super authentic delicious Puerto Rican food. Great hospitality, genuine customer service. The coffee was perfect. My food was to go but I will definitely make the 1 and 1/2 hour drive to revisit because I could have sworn my mother made it. I will be back again to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Thank you to both ladies for a great conversation as I waited. See you again.

Food: Fresh and phenomenal. Home-cooked with the owners right in the kitchen. It is a family-owned establishment and they either greet you, serve you or cook for you or any combination thereof. A welcomed feeling! You literally feel like you’re walking into their home FILLED with love and Puerto Rican pride!!
We had Garlic Chicken Mofongo with and without Chicharron. Vibrant flavors through and through. Came with a side salad to interrupt the richness.
The Empanadas (Chicken and Gauva were our choices) were large, flaky, fresh and filled with deliciousness! Crust is VERY light, they use that GOOD lard!
Now…the drinks are nothing to be played with! The Mojitos (Passionfruit) and Pitorro (Pineapple, Tamarind y Coconut Chai) will have you curled up sucking your thumb!
They have a stage ready to bring in the best Musicians specializing in sounds from Salsa, Merengue, Jibaro, Bomba and all styles in between! The stage is set in front of a large Puerto Rican flag, which gives a FANTASTIC experience that made us feel like we were at our favorite Boriqua’s casa en la Isla! Viva la Puerto Rico!

This is the best Puerto Rican food I’ve had in such a long time. I felt blessed eating here. The music playing is great, true salsa. The establishment is beautiful, the staff makes you feel welcomed and the food is seriously second to none and tastes so fresh! I love this place.

I’ve been working in the PAX area for almost 3 years and just found this gastronomic treasure in Callaway, MD. I had the shrimp trifongo (green plantain, breadfruit, and yuca with a red sauce), unbelievably delicious and satisfying. The portion was just right with a very nice side salad. The ambiance made me nostalgic of my summers as a young boy in Puerto Rico. The pride of the flag, the soft tones of Salsa music and flat screens video streaming locales of the Island of Enchantment. My server was the daughter of the head chef and owner and her description of the entrees. She showed a true pride of not only the quality of the food but of the cultural transference of comforting love that good Spanish influenced tropical foods can imbue. Coming back tomorrow to pick up a couple of empanadas for my trip back to New Jersey!

We have been here twice now and the food/service is always incredible. The sweet and salty appetizer is the best to start with, the drinks (el coquito y la Cuba libre) are well made, and the food (mofongo, chicken, fried pork) is delicious. We will definitely be back and have found our new favorite spot. Best local Puerto Rican food!

Omg best empanadas I’ve had maybe ever! Staff was really pleasant and the atmosphere was really contemporary and cool. Almost a night club feel. The place was also very clean which I appreciate. I might be here once a week honestly. I got my food to go but they wrapped it in a way where empanada stayed crispy. Didn’t get soggy due to steam and the plantain was soft, sweet and delicious.

My fiance and I started with a couple of mojitos and 2 beef empenadas. We also ordered the El Monchie platter to split. It was amazing. Definitely some of the best Puerto Rican food I have had. The drinks were delicious without being overly sweet. It is a real diamond in the rough in St. Mary’s County.
