Okay this is actually the best Mexican restaurant in State College. Super authentic food and delicious flavours.
If you are an Indian you will love this as this is very similar to home food taste!
Staff is very kind and they have different sauces at the sauce bar.
Vegetarian options available.

Honestly, I’m sure for the college kids, this is a great place to drop in quickly and get a meal. However, for me who was having dinner with a friend and we decided on Mexican, it was highly underwhelming. You place your order at the counter and pay, then go sit down to have them bring it to you. The soft drink system has a handwritten sign for a dollar per refill, but you’ve already paid. Semi confusing. The meals were brought out on paper plates. Like, great value brand. All the condiments are self serve in this crammed thing, where the sauces all drop into the others as your filling the smallest condiment cups on earth. I asked for chips and salsa and got chips – no salsa. I paid for a quality meal but was disappointed.

Where do I begin … in short, you will not be disappointed if you are looking for something that feels authentic! Loved their selection of sauces, the meat was spiced perfectly, and the masa / tortillas were delicious. We took the food back to the hotel and it was just a good as eating in the restaurant.

I’ve loved Lupita’s since they first opened years ago! Consistently delicious food, good portions, great prices. They are family-owned and it shows – always friendly and part of the community. We are moving and I will miss their tacos so much!!! I know I will make a special stop at Lupita’s whenever I’m in town ❤️ thanks for all the yummy food and smiles!!

When I need something tasty, filling and full of flavor, I walk myself down to Lupita’s. My go-to order is either the carnitas king quesadilla or carnitas tacos. It wouldn’t be true joy if you didn’t consume your plate full of happiness with horchata or a crisp Diet Coke.
Lupita’s is the best Mexican restaurant in downtown State College – so good I wrote a blog about it for The Daily Collegian. If you eat anywhere, eat here.

The best Mexican food in State College! Everything here always tastes super fresh and homemade. Would recommend ordering a little bit of everything – easily done since everything is so affordable! And don’t forget to check out the sauce bar!

I swear to you, this is the best food I have ever put in my mouth. I live 2 hrs away from this spot. I will drive 2 hrs every day for this food. I had this food on November 1st 2025. It is now February 16th 2026. I dream about this food every single day.

Outstanding taste and value! For about $8 I got 2 empanadas, rice, beans, and small soda. I expected appetizer-size empanadas, but these were large, delicious, and filling. One of the friends I came with tried the lengua (tongue) tacos, and enjoyed them as well.

Very disappointed in this meal. I was visiting for the weekend and in search of authentic Mexican food, decided to try Lupita’s and take a few of my daughters friends with us. For 8 people we spent about $140: I don’t mind that so long as the food is good, it was awful!
Horchata tasted like water with sugar and cinnamon, flautas looked good but as you bit into them they were simply flavorless, the lettuce that accompanied the flautas was plain lettuce no pico, no tomatoes not even an attempt. The nachos were a mountain of oily “fried” chips with a sprinkle of chicken and some cheese. Birria quesadilla was an incredible let down and again no flavor, same with chicken quesadilla, and chicken tacos.
Where they thrive is on portions- but who wants a large portion when the meal is bad?

Usually the food is very good and it was good this time as well. I usually the chicken tacos which are good but God, all there food is so oily. Even if I put the oil aside I usually just drain it because it’s not that big a deal but this time, on my third taco I almost choked on a bone. It is extremely surprising the quality and standard of this place to allow a bone of this size in their food. When I went to the guy at the front, his whole response was Jee, how’d that get there! I just left. No point in arguing with him!
