Hospitality should feel welcoming and gracious, especially in a setting centered around tea and gathering. Sadly, that was not our experience. I hope the establishment reflects on how guests are spoken to, as courtesy and warmth go a long way.
Added note: please take a look at my review history- I RARELY give a bad review unless I feel it’s absolutely necessary to share with the public. I love to support my local community and give high ratings when appropriate. It is with heavy heart to read the owners response- We truly wish you the very best and want our lovely teahouse to thrive. PLEASE be kinder moving forward- In person and with your reply’s.
The ambiance is on-point: a quaint cozy tea room that can house maybe about 20 people at most, ensuring an overall intimate experience. The menu is a set menu (but adjustments made for allergies or intolerances), and was delightful. Be adventurous and lean in. We frequently go to Taste of Britain in Wayne, and the food and presentation were their equal without a doubt. An exemplary high tea: delicious scones, lovely small desserts, excellent variety of tea sandwiches, and the menu changes monthly for seasonal variety and interest, both tea and food selections.
Terrific service and the proprietor couldn’t have been more kind and warm. You can see how much she loves creating the entire vibe of the whole place, a place to get away from it all and just enjoy some tea and good company.
Highly recommend. Cash only for the moment while they get their credit card situation sorted out so just remember to bring cash with you. Glad to see this spot join the local community, but if you are farther away, definitely a destination worth the trip if you are looking for a quality experience with a lot of heart and charm.
The venue itself is absolutely charming — beautifully decorated and perfect for a tea party atmosphere. The food and the presentation was good. The owner’s granddaughter deserves special recognition for being so accommodating and kind, especially with the young girls in our group. She took the time to explain things and make everyone feel welcome.
Unfortunately, the overall experience was hindered by some organizational issues. Despite being a pre-planned and confirmed event, several of our food selections were forgotten, and the timing and flow of service were quite delayed. We spent a significant amount of time waiting between courses, which disrupted the experience.
Additionally, I was disappointed that the owner’s attitude came across as somewhat rude and dismissive at times, particularly toward the children in attendance. Instead of acknowledging the service missteps, some of the issues were deflected onto the guests, which was disheartening.
I understand that this is a new business, and there are often growing pains in the beginning. With better event planning, stronger management, and a more welcoming approach to guests, I believe this tea room has great potential. I wish them success and hope they continue to improve.
Some calls went unanswered but was told that the space was confirmed. We called today 3 DAYS before the actual event to confirm once again after the unprofessionalism and unresponsiveness, and was told they gave our booking away because they sent the contract to the wrong email because they misspelled it on their end. We were told that the we had the reservation over the phone weeks prior and now 3 days before the event we don’t have a space. Then instead of making this right she proceeds to tell us she’s too busy to keep track and hung up on us. Don’t even waste your time here.
EDIT: I wanted to come back on here since you have so much time to respond to reviews but not confirm reservations, you guys want to sit here and write a whole novel instead of taking fault and giving a backhanded apology. I think you forget a phone works two ways and we do have the call logs and screen shots of the email you misspelled that we asked you to forward to us once we realize you messed up our reservation. Again mistakes happen but for you to sit here and put fault on the customer is absurd when again we were reaching out multiple times on our end. Why would we reach out multiple times throughout the month to confirm our booking and ask about the email if we weren’t serious about booking the space? Also by the way it’s not the same person writing this review as the other one star, it’s a different person from the same party, but that should be the least of you worries. Maybe focus on bettering your organization and customer service because it’s terrible. Good luck!
My husband and I enjoyed full Afternoon Tea at this charming addition to Hatboro. The tables were full, and so were our bellies as we thanked Mary and “Sweet Baby” Gianina for a delicious and generous lunch.
It’s easy to see that Mary puts her heart and soul into her endeavors. Love of tea, love of tradition, and love of family are evident as soon as you step inside. The walls display an array of treasured family photos. The array of china, cups and saucers, and teapots “short and stout” are a delight. And the food was as tasty and it was plentiful. I normally leave an afternoon tea wanting just a bit more… larger sandwiches or a decent size scone… but Mary and her granddaughter did not disappoint my greedy appetite. Wish I had taken pictures to show just how plentiful the courses and portions were. (Will do next time.)
Oh, and the hats! There should always be hats to draw your attention and curiosity over tea!
Sometimes a great meal brings about hiccups. Thus four stars out of five. Opening day was a full house and, understandably to my husband and me, service ran slow. I have no doubt my next visit will see improvement on that front. After all, hiccups are temporary.
The ladies of Sweet Baby’s have created a lovely spot to enjoy the pleasures of a leisurely tea. I’m eager to go back for more.
