* UPDATE: 7/20/2025 attempted to call four times and I was hung up on after the hold sequence around 11:20am. The refund offer is nice however, if I can’t get a hold of the store then the refund will be difficult to obtain. The hoagie was wonderful, but the expired product and refund attempt has not been a good experience. *
I am a regular customer for about half the year. I love it in September and October, but still not overly friendly customer service.
Parking might be tight during the summer season. A bit too far from the beach for a convenient walk. So stop by first via car or bicycle and then drive to your favorite beach.
We’re coming back to try the donuts and other pastries soon also.
The tea selection is mesmerizing and I’m driven to come back and try all of them.
Prices are quite reasonable and 10% less than the nearest competitor.
As little as a Half dozen bagels gets you a discount— so I got more than the 2 we needed. Cream cheese tubs come in 1/2 pound and 1 pound. TREMENDOUS bagel selection including salt, “everything”, and my personal favorite— wheat everything— was in rare thick supply. New Yorkers shouldn’t expect a NY style bagel, it’s close but has its own New Jersey beach identity.
There’s a selection of donuts and some other pastries as well, and it APPEARS all are made on premise (i didn’t ask and didn’t see any signs)
Order was quickly taken, rapidly processed in good time despite a small line at 09:45 on a Wednesday in June. They’ll give you a number and listen for it outside on a bar stool or table. Call ahead for more rapid pickup, but sometimes they’re too busy to pick up phone so you might have to wait 5 and try calling again. (I just went there). Google maps also offers some online ordering options if you’re used to that.
To get to 5 stars they’d just need to advertise their ingredients as organic or better— like they’re kindve already doing with their tea bar.
I’m a customer almost every time I’m in town. Good place to hit on way home from a jog or walk— easy to find with ample street parking. Heading south after the bridge it’s quickly on your right, so a convenient stop for those first hitting the island in either direction. Perfect geographical stop before getting to Island State Beach Park entrance to its South.
After this post I think you will find Bella’s improving as they’re more attractive spot than they were just a couple years ago when I first tried them— so the owner is constantly improving and that’s all one can ever ask— particularly for a place growing up in a town that’s been moving up for the past couple decades.
I’ve not yet fully explored the menu but will keep trying new things if i’m in town.
Owner gets high marks for his responses to some of the impatient saucy reviews, which shows he’s on top of his joint— in a business that’s not easy to run. Not sure, but I believe you might see him listening to your order in the back getting a jump on it.
Locals Tip: Call ahead to place your order. You will thank us!
