Had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner with the family.

Barsa provides an upscale experience (and reflected in the price), and it does so flawlessly.

We tried the 16th-century paneer appetizer, and the sauce was incredible. Something very unique and new to my seasoned Indian taste buds. Would love to see them make this into a proper curry and add it to the entrees with chicken and other proteins.

For mains, we got the chicken tikka masala, butter paneer masala, and shahi kofta. My dish was the chicken tikka masala, and it was so tasty–one of the best chicken tikka masala curries in the entire area. The juicy, well-marinated, and seasoned chicken rested on top for a nice presentation.

I did try a bit of the shahi kofta. It was too sweet for my liking, but that’s just a personal preference. For what it was, it was delicious.

Finally, we completed the meal with the deconstructed Jalebi and a chocolate cake. The presentations were excellent, and we felt we were part of an elaborate experience, with the staff providing a show-like experience with each course.

We had an incredible dining experience at Barsa New Indian Restaurant! Our server, Jevian, was outstanding—every recommendation he made was spot on. We started with the fried fish in banana leaf and the beet salad, both bursting with flavor and beautifully presented.

For the main course, we tried the chef’s special and the lobster Moilee—both were fantastic! The lobster was cooked perfectly—tender and flavorful, not rubbery at all. To finish, we had the halwa, and honestly, it was the best I’ve ever had.

There were so many other creative and elegant dishes we noticed on nearby tables—we can’t wait to come back and try more! Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves vibrant, modern Indian cuisine with authentic taste and wonderful service.

This was an amazing dining experience. The atmosphere is airy, colorful and festive. Opening the back-lit menu was a treat for tired eyes. The drinks were a delight: tasty, unique, smooth, and quite strong. Each one with its own flourish. The cauliflower appetizer was slightly sweet with a soft and satisfying texture. We tried several entrees, which were all very good, but our favorite was the baarish ka lamb. So tender and full of flavor. We ordered one small dessert and our excellent waiter, Jevian, brought us a complementary piece of pink carrot cake, adorned with fresh fruit and floating in a cloud of dry ice. It was a great venue to relax and unwind with friends after a challenging week at work. The whole experience felt magical.

When I say a symphony of flavors this chef is Michelin grade. He made every spice stand out singing a melody in your mouth. Jovean our master host was knowledgeable and led us to a seafood route. We had the pan seared fish in banana leaf(a banana wrapped mystery), imli shrimp (tangy personality that would punch lemons), lobster moilee (luxury in your mouth), 16th century paneer (royal lineage of cheese) and for dessert we had the brulee and payasam (dessert of kings). Symphonic crescendoes of flavors. Don’t miss this opportunity and if you love explosions of flavors and a stellar experience so so worth it! Hats off to the most passionate chef…best Indian food hands down!

We’ve had Indian food in many regions/countries, Barsa is now the favorite for our area. Everything from the lovely dining room to the presentation of the food and best of all, the flavors of each dish (we tried 4 dishes). The portion sizes were very good. If you like Indian food, it’s a must, if you’re not sure, try it, you may just fall in love with it. The staff was extremely attentive and kind. Can’t wait to go back!

We visited Barsa for the first time last evening and are looking forward to making many more delicious memories here.
Before anything was served we felt so welcomed with a graciousness and attentiveness that is rare in many other dining establishments.
Our server, Sagar was so sweet, kind, and knowledgeable. He helped us with our orders and all of his recommendations were perfect. The restaurant staff knew exactly when we needed something yet they never hovered.
The food is truly a gift. What skill with complex spices, merging flavors, and gorgeous colors! We started with the Imli Shrimp. Oh my; the shrimp were perfectly cooked in a sauce that I could have eaten on its own. The Chicken Tikka Masala was deliciously rich and creamy while the Karaikudi Chicken was one of the best dishes I have ever had with depths of rich deliciousness and a soft heat that do not overpower. Even the rice was perfect!
The Garlic Naan was both crispy and tender and the Boondi Raita which can be just a “side sauce” at most restaurants was a masterpiece here!
We didn’t order dessert but one was delivered to our table. A perfect and delightful ending to one of the best dining experiences we have had since moving to Durham.
Thank you Chef, thank you Sagar and the entire staff of Barsa for making a simple dinner on a Thursday into a cherished memory!

One of the best meals ever! Jevian was our server and what an amazing person! The food, the service, just everything was top notch. They actually grind their spices and prepare the dishes accordingly. And you can definitely taste the difference. So glad to have them in Durham. Thank you. I will definitely be back.

Absolutely phenomenal experience!
From start to finish, this Indian restaurant exceeded all expectations. We started with the most delicious appetizers — the paneer and the salmon wrapped in banana leaf were bursting with fresh flavor. For our mains, both the lobster and chicken dishes were perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented. Every bite was layered with incredible spices and depth — truly gourmet Indian cuisine at its finest. The wine pairings were spot on, and we ended the evening with a blueberry dessert that was out of this world. Even our teen daughter, who can be a tough critic, absolutely loved everything. We’ll definitely be back soon! Thanks to our amazing server who made it even better

I love this place and their plates! Been here over 3 times already. The server is nice and the interior is really lovely! Totally recommend the Creamy Chicken Tandoor—it looks so cool on the plate! Murumuru was a bit too crispy for me, but the tandoor was amazing. Garlic Naan is always good, and the curry is delicious too.

We visited Barsa New Indian Restaurant in Durham, NC to celebrate our son’s 11th birthday, and it turned out to be a truly memorable evening!

The ambiance was elegant yet cozy, and the presentation of each dish was Insta-worthy — beautifully plated with vibrant colors and inviting aromas. We started with the chicken kebabs and fish in banana leaf — both bursting with authentic flavors and perfectly cooked. For the main course, the chicken tikka masala was a crowd-pleaser, rich and delicious.

The Kozhi Chicken was full of flavor and had a wonderfully authentic taste. However, since it came as a large leg quarter, it was a bit uncomfortable to eat from the curry bowl — I couldn’t really enjoy it at the restaurant. But once I reheated the leftovers the next day, it tasted just as amazing! I’d love to suggest the chef consider using smaller pieces of chicken in this dish to make it easier to savor on the spot.

The chili garlic naan deserves a special mention — soft, aromatic, and packed with flavor — definitely a must-try!

For drinks, the one I ordered had wonderful flavor but a few too many garnishes that kept coming through the straw. The drink itself was fantastic — I’d just prefer a simpler presentation next time.

The staff made our evening extra special. Sagar, our server, and Sunny, the restaurant manager, went above and beyond to make our son’s birthday feel personal and joyful. Their recommendations were spot-on, and their service was absolutely top-notch.

We ended the meal with a complimentary birthday pastry, which looked stunning and tasted heavenly. The Burnt Butter Pannacotta dessert was fine, though not as memorable as the rest of the meal.

Overall, Barsa delivers an exceptional dining experience — creative Indian cuisine with heart, flavor, and genuine hospitality. We can’t wait to come back!
