My family and I were passing through, returning from a road trip, and had to find a spot for dinner. Enter Silver star Smokehouse Express. It should be noted that Silver Star Smokehouse Express and Mon Junis Italian Cafe and Grocery are under the same roof.
First up the negative: Upon walking in, the smell of old frying oil just hit me in the face. Immediately I knew I didn’t want anything fried. My brother ordered the fried onions, and I had two. The onions looked good, and tasted pretty good, but I was belching and had indegestion the rest of the trip. I betrayed myself. I can and do eat fried food. Also, our clothes after leaving smelled heavily or frying oil.
Now for the good. I ordered the ribs platter with the BBQ beans and potato salad. The meat on the ribs basically fell off, and tasted really good. They were lightly sauced, and I requested their original BBQ sauce and the waitress obliged. My brother tried their ghost (pepper) BBQ sauce, it had some heat, and he liked that. Recommended. The BBQ beans and the potato salad were good as well.
My wife ordered the Chicken Cheesy Aurora from Mon Junis’ menu and it was loaded with cheese and my wife thought it was really good. It came out piping hot.
Our waitress Kaleigh couldn’t have been more attentive with us. She was able to field all of our questions and give honest feedback that helped us with our decision making process. She also kept up with our refills and ensured we were taken care of throughout our meal.

She was on time, kind, and attentive to food and drink needs.
The food is a different story. I ordered the classic burger as I am a huge fan of home style burgers.
The meat was over cooked and lacking in flavor. For being such a small burger, they put 4 slices of cheese on it which is very unnecessary.
The appetizer nachos with the brisket, cheese, and sauce were pretty tasty though, and there was enough to feed everybody.
The servings were plentiful which is always a good thing for the price.
My wife had the Super Spud with brisket, and she thought the brisket could definitely use some sauce. (Quality BBQ shouldnt need sauce)
All in all, its a nice place to sit and chat. It is very homey and comfortable, with great service. The BBQ I would call sub-par.
Maybe we will try the Italian food next time.

Fantastic food! The steak bites where the melt in your mouth kind and the calamari was yummy! I forgot how much I’ve missed real sweet tea Everything was very good!! The waitress was outstanding and we had our lunches in no time!

This place is an upscale BBQ and Italian restaurant. You might think double restaurants seem fast food or lesser the quality YOU WOULD BE WRONG. Arthur can put out some love filled food. This restaurant is hands down 12 outta 10 delicious. We had the 3meat platter with broccoli and green beans. The brisket was so tender, yet it had that bite that consistency you’re wanting. Oh man, it was so good and juicy. We had the ribs, and my husband said he apologizes, they are so good he’s eating them. Ok, so they are good enough for him to be stingy. THAT’S DANG GOOD. Now my favorite pulled pork. Oh goodness gracious it was great. I asked for a bun. I was ecstatic when the cook Arthur sent it out toasted. They have the good pickle spears. Our waitress was on it. Our cups didn’t get half before we got topped off. She was so nice and the manager also. We had a cupcake before dinner came. The cake was great, a little sweet but good. I enjoyed the inside it had local art and their history displayed on the ways. Yall cone in eat some food. Make your own conclusion.

We use to visit the Silver Star in Bossier in front of the old K-mart, that place was top tier. I tried not to compare the express to the original place that I loved but it was hard not to. The service was excellent from our waitress & from what I observed from other waitresses. The restaurant was nice but didn’t know it was joined with Monjuni’s. This is not bad as you get to order from either restaurant. But your seated in a dining lobby inconsistent with the steakhouse vibe & more like a party with a piñata. The selection of food on the menu is limited in comparison to the other Silver Stars, hence the Express in its title. But I was wanting or looking for more or at least bigger entrée items. Alot of the items were small & fast cooked items that they can get out quickly. I suppose if you live close by & you don’t want to drive into town, then this is your only option for overpriced bbq. The price I paid for 5 ribs is the same if I were to get a full rack at Texas Roadhouse. Imo, you would get a larger portion of food at Podnuh for less money. Overall, the food is good, the service was great, & the atmosphere was inconsistent. If you live in town, there are better options but it is still a nice enough place to get a change of scenery.

This was the first time my wife and I came here. It was busy but we didn’t have to wait long. We both ordered the smoked brisket with sides and I have to say everything was delicious! I like there BBQ sauce and the extra tang they put in there ranch sauce. All of the staffing were professional, considerate and hard working. We were very full after eating and definitely will be coming back! Thank you guys for good food and service! Management you should be very proud of your girls!!!!

I needed some keto friendly options, and I wasn’t sure this place would be able to meet my requests. Blown away by their willingness to make my food to special request. I had the pictured burger with no bun and a side salad. My Husband enjoyed the massive serving of brisket nachos, and his meal! We definitely needed boxes on this trip! Our waitress was very sweet and paid a lot of attention to the detail of making sure we both got what we were looking for.

I think half of these reviews are fake. This has to be the worst BBQ I’ve had in the city. The food is overpriced $22 for a two-meat plate, when you can get a three-meat plate at Podnuh’s for $20. The BBQ here was dry and flavorless, and the sausage was extremely dry. I asked for a cup of ice and got a cup of water instead. If you want your money’s worth, go to Podnuh’s. You’ll get more food for less money. I’ll never come back here.
