The short rib was absolutely spot-on and was delicious. The polenta what’s good with balance texture and the flavor of the short rib was good.
Overall it was a pretty good experience, but I’m absolutely dinging it one star on whatever they claim was authentic carbonara and the fact that they charge a credit card fee on a restaurant where you usually going to drop over $100 per 2 people. There’s nothing more than enrages me the nonsense fees on restaurants that are they charge ridiculous prices basic foods such as pasta.
I would go again, but I probably pay in pennies.
I really enjoyed the mussels, it was the first time I tried them with cappers and loved the flavor combination. For mains we went for the black linguine with salmon and the paccheri al forno. The paccheri portion was huge and delicious. I loved the fact that the food was served warmed and it was very comforting. I highly recommend and will be coming back.
Now the dilemma was to find a authentic one, because as we all know when it comes to traditional food from different countries lots of restaurants claims to be authentic but when you eat their food they disappoint you . This time I have an Italian with me so it was much easier to enjoy than worried about if it’s real Italian food .
Very easy to find the restaurant in Salt Lake City (Downtown) , loved the high ceiling & the pictures of famous people in black & white.
If I am not mistaken it was the owner who welcomed us, older gentleman who was very respectful & kind. Customer service was excellent.
Let’s talk about the food now, we ordered Eggplant parmigiana, Ravioli ara aragosta, 2 different flavors of Penna Cotta . I loved the coffee flavor much better than the fruit one actually. They gave us freshly made bread with sauce & it was yummy . I ordered the lobster & it was good . Somehow I expected more out from this dish but my husband actually loved it . So that makes a point that everyone has different choices. I did loved the eggplant parmigiana. I was gonna try their Cappuccino because I never leave an Italian restaurant without trying their Cappuccino. It feels like something is missing but I was actually very full & was getting late, I need to sleep lol..!
We both used the restroom & it was very nice and clean. You can see my pictures that I loved that mirror lol ! Only thing that bugged me was that there was no hook or anything to put my purse in, didn’t like a bit that I had to put my purse on the floor ! I did recommend to the owner & he was very nice and understanding about it . Also said he will make sure they put it there. I love the fact he did not get offended or anything.
So as per as our experience with this amazing restaurant was exceptional, we loved how welcoming they make us feel. Especially the older gentleman who actually came to my husband & ask him how can he make our experience better. Tell you the truth this never happened to us before, ever ! Even tho he didn’t know that my husband is in military he actually went above & beyond for us. I am pretty sure he does this to all his customers because that’s how amazing of a person he is ! I will never forget his hospitality, if I end up moving to Utah this will be one of our go to places _____
Huge thanks to Martha, the manager. She was amazing: super kind, attentive, and made everything run perfectly.
We’ll definitely be back!
For my birthday, my daughter insisted we try Galeno’s—and oh my goodness, what a revelation! I’ve always adored Eggplant Parmigiana, and my wife, a proud descendant of the Countess of Altafin, has brought the rich traditions of Italian cuisine into our home. When we make fresh pasta from scratch—just egg and flour—it tastes remarkably like what Galeno’s serves. That’s saying something.
I’ve traveled the world, and in every city, I’ve hunted down restaurants that serve Eggplant Parmigiana. But this one… THIS ONE… is the holy grail. Stop the world—I found it!
Galeno’s is elegant without being intimidating. It welcomes you with warmth, charm, and a touch of nostalgia. The walls are adorned with photos of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr., giving it a classic vibe. Bright, modern, yet timeless with its columns and vintage flair.
And then there was our waitress—a lovely Brazilian woman with flawless English and all the grace and warmth you’d expect. She explained the menu beautifully. The dish I craved was only served at dinner, but she convinced the chef to prepare it especially for me at lunchtime. That gesture alone made the day unforgettable. We chatted, laughed, and even got a complimentary dessert so we could sing “Happy Birthday.”
If you love authentic Italian food, a clean and inviting ambiance, and service that makes you feel like royalty—Galeno’s is your place.
