Had a wonderful New Year’s celebration at Yarrow. The dinner buffet was delicious, the new dining space is gorgeous, and the staff were incredibly helpful as they continue to perfect the new menu.

The pros: Riding the gondola over is a treat. Lifties were very pleasant and quite nice. This definitely adds to the experience. The remodeled lodge is fantastic, the views are great and the vibe is just what you’d expect. The cocktails were well done and the service was acceptable.

The cons: The food was absolutely sub par. French onion soup was lukewarm, lacked flavor and was more or less sautéed onions with a mediocre cheesy crouton. The steak lacked seasoning and was doused in a rather bland, overly garlic chimichurri. The roasted chicken was cooked perfectly but came out with, again,
lukewarm sides and bland sauce.

Overall, great venue with overpriced sub par food. When the best thing on the menu is their $10 bread…

Food is a level above from what you can usually find in the area. 4 stars but can easily be 5 stars due mostly to fixable issues (assuming they are figuring out the kinks being so new).

Cons:
-Getting to the restaurant at night from Truckee is challenging, because there is no parking directly near the restaurant – you have to park in the Sugarbowl lot and then walk in snow for 6-8 minutes using google maps because it is not indicated anywhere else on the resort.
-Lastly it took a good 15-20 minutes for anyone to come to our table to bring us water or get us started with anything. Finally a waiter noticed and came to us and from then on service was great.

Pro:
– Food is impeccable, wine selection was great. Once our order was placed everything arrived within 15 minutes.
-Location, although hard to find at first is really prime with great view of the mountain.
– Ambiance is also great, feels like a 5 star all throughout.

Overall this is definitely a gem in the making and will definitely come back. Just make sure you have proper shoes and clothes to walk in the snow for a bit if coming from outside the resort.

My husband and i had a horrendous experience there. The restaurant before used to be so nice. No more tablecloths, and what was worse is that the restaurant/customer experience was non-existent. We got there, only a waiter there who said there were no menus. We were asked to get everything from scanning the QR code. I know computers, but it was not user friendly. I was told i didn’t have to open an account. As soon as i scanned, i was asked to open an account. They don’t want cash. It went on and on. It was truly all about their money and no customer contact. We left and went across the street to Donner Ranch who had nice waiters who asked us what we needed, told us about specials, gave us menus. Delicious food, great service that we didn’t get at Yarrow.

Warm and comfortable dining room, lots of wood, pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.
Chickpea stew, Gnocchis and steelhead are excellent. Lamb Meatballs with Labneh was nice.
Wagyu Flank steak was a miss: overcooked and a bit tough; having had a variety of wagyu beef in the past, I doubt this is wagyu at all – way too lean.
Nice service. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Our party had the flank steak, the pork chops, the gnocchi, and the chickpea pancakes. The clear winners were the pork chops and the flank steak. Rolls and beet salad for appetizers. Overall, pork chops, beat salad and the rolls were on our “order again” list. While the flank steak was great, it didn’t make the list.

The good:
The pork chops were juicy and cooked just right with great breading that was crunchy without being greasy or over done and onto it off it had a tangy little something with the veggies that was perfect- good portion. The flank steak was melt in your mouth perfection 10/10 would eat again, but why pair with French fries? That was an odd choice, not sure we were thrilled with the pairing for 54$, red meat should come with more than fries. Gnocchi was light – which can be tricky to do but there were 12 pieces of gnocchi in the bowl… smaller than a quarter each so… there was that.

Beet salad with goat cheese was great- 10/10 will do again. Rolls were fluffy and yummy. Each side has to be purchased on the side- except the questionable fries that arrived with the flank steak.

The chickpea pancakes were… different. The sauce and tomatoes for it were tangy and great- but the table left undecided on that one with the pancakes being almost soggy and not tasting cooked. Even chickpea flour must be cooked

Yarrow is so good, definitely make a reservation because it gets busy in the evenings. The view of the mountain is absolutely incredible and honestly worth going for that alone. The food was so yummy, and I loved the QR code ordering system, super easy and our food came out insanely fast, which was perfect since we had about 30 minutes to eat before heading back out skiing. I had the burger and it was SO good. Such a great spot.

We had a good lunch on the deck- quick service, tasty food. Cubano sandwich a winner. Dinner was really good and fun. All shareable- nice variety of food- the meatballs, flatbread, Parker house rolls and more so tasty. And the view can’t be beat.
