When my children were still in school, I needed an outlet while my husband was finishing up his studies at the University. Cooking a lot among friends and their encouragements gave me an idea that maybe starting catering would be a good fit. Over 30 years later, and the restaurant speaks for itself. I ended up finding my passion and finding new ways to connect to the people around me in this town through my culinary explorations introducing Ann Arbor to authentic, locally sourced Turkish home cooking. After 29 years we’ve gotten our formula down! Our customers speak wonders about our food, especially our red-lentil soup all over the world, and for that we feel tremendous gratitude.

Unassuming Turkish eatery serving lamb, chicken & vegan dishes, plus wine & beer in a homey space.

The chicken soup and eggplant were good. I ordered the salmon and rice pilaf; it was delicious and a normal portion.

The Turkish coffee is strong and bold; it comes in a small, Turkish-sized cup.

The service was amazing!

But honestly, it is a bit expensive for me. I expect more at that price.

The restaurant was very cozy, clean and welcoming. The food was superb, particularly the extremely tender lamb, and the waiter was friendly and attentive. We will definitely go back soon!

Update: We came back two weeks later and the food was once again truly delicious. The staff were also very friendly, and the environment was clean and cozy. Please be aware that the menu changed from last time, so I believe the specials are updated regularly.

Update 03/03/2022: We came with a friend today for dessert. Even though we arrived half an hour before closing, they very kindly let us in and the food was delicious! I particularly liked the Noah’s Pudding, made with tasty rose water syrup. The restaurant was immaculately clean and very welcoming.

Update 03/19/2022: We experienced the special meze event with a dear friend of ours. The food was excellent and had clearly taken great effort to prepare. I particularly liked the stuffed cabbage and spicy atom. The staff were all very friendly and attentive, and the owner was incredibly flexible to accommodate our needs.

I went for lunch, and let the server know I had limited time. I get this is not a fast food place, but it still took too long for a lunch service.

The food was ok. The chilled cucumber soup was good. I got the “macaroni” and minced lamb. I was surprised to see it served as unseasoned noodles with mince and yogurt sauce just kind of poured on. It would have been better mixed and with a different noodle.

Overall, it’s fine. I probably won’t got if I have a tight lunch time. Might order something different.

Lovely, quiet restaurant that was very good. The red lentil soup had some really good flavor, the olive salad was exceptional; I would never have thought to pair it with pomegranate seeds and walnuts and green onions. Yoghurt based soup was delicious too! My husband and I were looking for a small plate dinner, something fresh and light and flavorful; this place didn’t disappoint!

As a Turkish man living abroad, l missed the test of real authentic Turkish food. I saw Ayse Cafe on the map, and changed my route to try. I am glad l did, l felt like l am in my mother’s kitchen. Everything was very good and the place was very clean and cute. From now on it is my most favorite place in Ohio. Highly recommended.

It’s a little like having a Turkish friend who’s mom invited you to join them for dinner. Check the photos to see a few of the shots I took while at Ayse’s. I liked the Allspice Chicken I ordered today. It’s served with rice with vermicelli, and I added the red lentil soup. The Ground Lamb with Eggplant entree looked pretty solid as well. They have a variety of cold desserts, some actually quite healthy. I can’t say enough about how delicious and healthy everything is here… and so different from the usual dining spots in Ann Arbor. I’ll definitely eat here again.

If you are in need of a home cooked meal please come to Aye’s Cafe. My father loves meals that “stick to your stomach” Aye’s is that and so much more. I got the lentil soup, lamb meatloaf in a spicy tomato sauce, and finished the meal with a Turkish coffee and chocolate cake. Everything was absolutely incredible. You can tell the care that goes into every dish. I will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu.

A very nice place, that is easy to access and have relaxing meal.
I recommend the Lentil Stew as well as the Eggplant Stew. Both are very well done and a nice size portion.
A good selection of desserts, too.
Service is attentive and personable.

Pretty good Turkish food. Not your typical Turkish doner. More of the homemade food. Owner is pleasant and the service is fantastic.
