The Rails where do I start. Let’s start with Saturday. I made reservations 3 weeks in advance. Checked the website to see what was being offered on the current menu. I checked again the day of and it showed the same menu great! I know what I want, when I arrived was told there was one set menu for the day and it was a valentine’s special menu for two for $87.50. Wow what a great deal but I don’t want anything on the menu due to food allergies and my specific taste. But we decided for that price let’s do it! Appitizer was a pork lumpia i was like great this is the only thing I want on this menu when it arrives oh just one per person and it is not a lumpia at all it was a regular tiny egg roll it was good and the accompanying sauce was good. minutes later the main course the choices were steak Diane with brady flambae dutches potato or grilled Dorado with lobster and herb pressed potato. I have had the steak there before and it was flavorless and I cannot eat steak Diane because of the sauce. So I got the Dorado and lobster. Even though I’m not a fan of grilled fish I thought I would try it….everything was cold except for the potatoes. Funny because the seafood was overcooked the fish was tough and over seasoned with what tasted like a Cajun seasoning could have used some type of herb the lobster was a solid piece of rubber and it was only half of a small tail. The potato was the best thing of the evening. My date had the steak that was smothered in sauce and she got maybe 2 fork fulls of the potatoes less than half of what I was served. As we were rating the food a family at the table across from us was offered different items the were not part of the menu I was not given that option at all! Wow. Then the desert, Belgium chocolate fondant(cake) glazed strawberry vanilla bean 8ce and a homemade chocolate sauce. Another item I could not eat because of food allergies. I could not tell you how that tasted but my date only ate half I told them I can’t eat that just box it so I can give it away when I left. We get the bill and guess what the price was not for 2 it was for each person bill was $210.00 for cold and inedible food on my part. I was i was told it was a set menu during the correspondence over the 3 weeks between the day I made 5he reservation and my arrival or even put it on your website! By the I may have spoiled my kids because I’m a home cook and the times I have taken them to the Rails before we were dissatisfied with the food they will not go back.the last time we went the pork belly was good that I had but my kids I had to take them somewhere else that night so they could eat because the food they ordered was terrible.Back to Saturday I believe all the food was prepared in advance in bulk and then plated and served.

The Rails – Clovis, NM ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Rails is not just dinner —, it’s an experience. Set inside a historic railway station, the atmosphere is unmatched, and the food delivers on every level.
I went with the Chef’s Special: a 6oz fillet stuffed with bacon, mushrooms, green chili, and blue cheese, served over a salt roasted beetroot galette with glazed baby beets and pickled red cabbage. The presentation was gorgeous and the flavors were bold and perfectly layered. That green chili stuffing was pure New Mexico magic.
Worth every penny. If you’re in Clovis, don’t skip this one

Most places make it difficult to gain your server’s attention, or worse, ask another table’s server or random restaurant employee for help or service. Not at The Rails – formal continental service is the standard procedure. Top notch dinning experience. Experienced, and attentive service team was there to provide seamless and intuitive actions to our every need. The food was high quality, well prepared, balanced, and creative in presentation. Impressive wine and whiskey selection. Comfortable dinning room filled with historic old large format train images. I enjoyed the venison and the wife loved the blackened salmon. We look forward to a return visit!

A great place for a date night. Me and the better half went here and enjoyed every bit. The service was great, our waitress was attentive but not overbearing. Food and drinks were brought quick enough. Nothing was rushed and everything was delicious. In a town known for the railroad being right on the tracks was really fun. Seeing trains start/stop and go on by was a great scenic oddity. Would recommend if you are in town.

Valentine’s Day Review – The Rails (Clovis, NM)
We made our Valentine’s Day reservation online in advance. The reservation page showed multiple menu options for February 14th, so we expected some variety. When we arrived, however, there was only a single printed menu with one appetizer option, two entrée choices (Steak Diane or fish & lobster), and one dessert. The menu had “$87” printed at the top. I specifically asked our waitress if that price was for two people, and she confirmed that it was.
The menu also stated a complimentary glass of champagne was included, but we were never offered it.
To start with the positives: we expected it to be crowded and were fully prepared to be patient and enjoy the evening. Our drinks came out quickly (their drinks have consistently been good), and the appetizer arrived fast as well.
However, once the entrées came out — very quickly — it raised some concerns. We were told all steaks would be cooked medium with no option to request temperature. The steak was cooked as described and tasted fine, though the portion was small. The fish and lobster, unfortunately, were noticeably overcooked, with the lobster being rubbery.
The speed of service and lack of cooking customization made it very apparent that the food was pre-prepared and plated assembly-style. At a higher-end restaurant, especially on Valentine’s Day with premium pricing, buffet-style or bulk pre-cooked execution is disappointing. When you’re paying elevated prices, you expect food prepared to order — not something that feels pre-cooked and reheated for volume service. That was honestly the biggest letdown of the night.
We were prepared to spend around $90 plus drinks. What surprised us was the final bill — $240. That’s when I asked to speak with the manager. The confusion stemmed from:
The online reservation page showing multiple options.
Being told $87 was for two people.
Not receiving the advertised complimentary champagne.
The manager explained the updated details were posted on Facebook and that the website wasn’t updated. Not everyone relies on Facebook — many customers depend on the official website when making reservations.
To their credit, I paid the bill and remained respectful. The manager applied a 20% discount, which essentially covered the drinks, and offered to personally assist us in the future.
The Rails has a great atmosphere and strong drinks. But for a premium holiday experience, clearer communication, accurate pricing transparency, and food prepared to order would have made a major difference.
Unfortunately, this Valentine’s experience felt overpriced, misleading, and below the standard expected from what is considered one of the more upscale restaurants in Clovis.

Wonderful time with great food! Portions are substantial. I had a house special: prime rib meatballs in pasta cream sauce. The owner came out suggested drinks and then shared drink recipe with us! Casual atmosphere. They were able to handle our large party! Thank you!!

Appetizers and desserts were wonderful, but not very impressed with the steaks. Ordered a NY strip, rare. The cut size rivaled a filet mignon (very small) and it was cooked medium-well at best. However, it was still pretty tender and tasted good. Whiskey selection was excellent.

For the price and delivery of the steak, probably won’t order one of it again, but there’s a lot of other solid entrees, so nothing I’m too upset over

Just what Clovis needed for a wonderful date night with your loved one. The atmosphere was perfect, service was good, and the food what different from anything offered in Clovis. ALL dishes were visibly beautiful! The arancini was incredible! I highly recommend them. The tuna tartare was ok. My husband ordered the crispy duck breast, Mashed Potatoes, and asparagus, I had the truffle fettuccine with blackened shrimp. The skin on the duck wasn’t as crispy as I expected, but a little bit of everything on one bite was delicious. The shrimp on my fettuccine was good, but I think the dish needed more parmesan. The berry creme Brulee didn’t have that crack when tapped, but the honeycomb added a nice bitter taste and some crunchy texture. The key lime pie was what one would expect. We sat on the outside patio and there was a thunderstorm, they closed the shades and it was very romantic. Will definitely be back, since I heard the menus are supposed to change. Hoping I get to try the shrimp and grits next time!
