Finally!! An authentic Puerto Rican restaurant! And when I say authentic, I truly mean it. Every dish transports you straight to the beautiful island. I grew up in a Puerto Rican household and traveled to Puerto Rico often, and these flavors instantly brought me back. The food truly embraces the rich, traditional tastes of the island.
When you see dishes like pollo guisado, pernil, and mofongo on the menu, you know they’re made with love—these are dishes that take time, care, and tradition to prepare. This place is a true local gem for Cortland, and I hope everyone gets the chance to experience the warmth, culture, and love that comes through in every bite.

This weekend, we finally made it to La Bamba – authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, and wow… what a flavor-packed experience. As true food lovers who appreciate international cuisine done right, this place immediately won us over with its heart, authenticity, and bold island flavors.

We ordered the Dragon Meal for two, and it was more than generous. The mofongo was rich, garlicky, and perfectly mashed—comforting yet deeply flavorful. The cerullitos were crispy on the outside, soft inside, and dangerously addictive. The fried pork chunks were a standout: golden, juicy, and seasoned just right, with that irresistible crunch that keeps you reaching for “just one more.” Add in the crispy wings and sweet fried plantains, and every bite felt like a celebration of Puerto Rican home cooking.

We also had the chance to taste their pork stew and slow-cooked chicken, and honestly—this is where La Bamba truly shines. The meats were tender, deeply seasoned, and clearly cooked with patience and care. You can taste the hours behind those pots. The owner personally shared how hard he works every day to maintain high quality, and that dedication shows in every dish served.

From savory to sweet, La Bamba delivers authenticity, warmth, and soul. This is not just a meal—it’s a cultural experience. If you’re craving real Puerto Rican flavors made with pride and consistency, La Bamba is a must-visit. Support local, support passion, and most importantly—come hungry. ✨

We have been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile and we are now sorry we didn’t go earlier. First off, the casual interior styling and table seating are immaculately clean including the rest room. Service was prompt and very friendly, it felt like family atmosphere right off. We ordered three different meals and we all agreed the presentation, flavoring and portion sizes were outstanding and the pricing was very fair for the home made quality of the cuisine. Many have the misconception that Caribbean food, in this case Puerto Rican, are overly spiced, wrong. This cuisine is flavorful without being over spiced. We most definitely will visit again sooner than later.

So the CNY just got a new Puerto Rican restaurant and I couldn’t be more excited, before we had to drive over 2 hours to get good puerto Rican food in the cuse at mi casitas now tu casitas but now just 15 mins away I can get a taste of the island in country bumbkin cortland. Definitely worth the trip if your in the fingerlakes area the fried pork with yellow rice and beans was delicious and reminded me of meals with the familia. The flan is on point and cant go wrong with the champaign cola to wash it all down.

The food was amazing and so was the worker/owner. Came in with my family for a little birthday dinner a little later then expected but I feel like that made the experience so much better enjoying the food and being able to talk to the worker and listen to his stories ! 10/10 will definitely be back I even included picture of the menu

I am very happy I found this great Latin food restaurant on my trip south on 81.
Very easy on and off the Cortland exit.
Food was delicious. The two people who worked there were extremely pleasant.
I had the chicken, plantains and rice.
Perfect amount of food per serving, and the home-made hot sauce was delicious!!
It was a low to medium heat (I understand not everyone loves their lips and tongue burning off like me), but it had a nice bite and it did not change the actual flavor of the food.
If you enjoy hot sauce, give it a try!
I can’t wait for my next trip up 81 to stop in here! With so many fast food places (which I refuse to eat at), this was a great find with great food.
Could have taken the food to go, but I ate there and really enjoyed the atmosphere. My order was prepared quick, so don’t concern yourself about a wait for delicious food.

We were looking something to eat for lunch on our way to Alexandria Bay and to be honest we didn’t looking for this specific place so my husband drove around the parking lot and we saw at first we read the sign said “a taste of the carribean” but then we read the sign on the window near the entrance door said “authentic Puerto Rican” we just got back a month ago from PR trip and of course we still remember our experience when we were there.
So without thinking twice we said “let’s go in”.
This place seems like sort of cafeteria style to my eyes. Placed our order with the two young lady behind the line, paid and sit down then they brought the food to our table.
Hubby got his favorite Cuban sandwich, he said this dish barely has the roll/bread and loaded more to meats instead (he wasn’t complaining he was just thrilled).
Mine was arroz con gandules with pollo guisado and was delicious meals.
Too bad this only one time things for us to eat here but we were just glad to found this corner hidden gems to eat rather than eat subway or Arby’s. If we ever be around the area again for the future at least we know where to find foods that feels like home food.
