Located on the Main Floor of VR Tysons Bouldering Climbing Gym Whether your basecamp is in the back of a van parked in a pull-off on the side of some dirt road or a porta-ledge setup on some epic cliffside, Basecamp is a place to come together, regroup, reflect, and get ready for the next big push. And if we’ve learned anything through our experiences at Basecamp…there’s usually great company and coffee! Our inspiration is borrowed from the climbs we conquer in some of the most iconic parks local and abroad. Our Limited-Edition bags and coffees are sure to please your eyes, palate, and conscience! Beautiful Space, but Disappointing Experience
I had high hopes for Basecamp Coffee. As someone who loves the climbing community, the theme and decor are fantastic—it’s a great-looking space that I initially thought would become my new go-to study and work spot. Unfortunately, the actual experience left a lot to be desired.
The Service
I want to be clear: I came in with a positive attitude, but I left feeling quite upset by the service. There was a noticeable shift in the barista’s demeanor the moment the “no tip” option was selected on the screen. Coming back to the U.S. after living in Australia, I’m still adjusting back to the local tipping culture, and that’s on me—but the service shouldn’t turn cold because of it. Having worked as a barista myself, I understand the hustle, but it’s difficult to justify a 20% tip on a 2-minute service for a $13 order (a coffee and a beer) when the hospitality isn’t there.
The Coffee
Beyond the service, the coffee itself was lackluster. After a year of enjoying the high standards of Australian coffee culture, I found the quality here didn’t quite measure up. My coffee, which should have been strong and balanced, tasted bland, and the milk was over-steamed. For a shop with such a great “plethora” of options, the execution of the basics needs work.
Final Thoughts
It’s a shame because the atmosphere is truly five-star, but the combination of a dismissive attitude and a subpar cup of coffee means I’ll likely be looking elsewhere for my morning brew.
I would love to come back next time and give a better review, but this time was lacking luster.

Absolutely love, the vibe the music the decor and the coffees are insane. Crème brûlée is definitely a hit. They even use the torch on the top. I have a video attached and pictures. Also got the campfire and it is fire! Highly recommended kind of a weird location so if you see the sign from the street, go to the back of the building and make sure to park.

This isn’t really a place for real coffee lovers unfortunately. The fact that no matter what size you get, they are ONLY putting 2 shots of espresso. I don’t know how that makes any sense when your customers are complaining about milky coffee when a large is 90% milk because you guys aren’t putting more espresso.
And let me guess, a customer can BUY another shot right? After a milky coffee who’s coming back and paying more for an already $7 latte ($8+ of I bought another shot)?

It’s a surprisingly spacious coffee shop under Vertical Rock Tysons (rock climbing gym) tucked away in the back of a shopping plaza behind Chick-fil-A.
The coffee was tasty and robust, with acidity, and the coffee cake we tried was good. Unlike other dry and crumbly coffee cakes, this one was moist and soft with just the right amount of sweetness that went very well with the coffee. The ambiance was calm and dim in the back, making it feel cozy. Many pumpkins were on display, making us feel like we had entered the autumn season.

The coffee is good but the music is way too loud it’s overstimulating. We could barely hear ourselves speak. The ambience is dark and cozy, but the loud pop music takes away from that. They should play more relaxing less loud music that matches the ambience.

I love being able to grab coffee and a little snack mid climb! Shout out to Vlad leach for being an awesome guide, he helped me extremely on getting some climbs and was such a supportive person. I was so excited to finally get to have coffee with one of my CrossFit buddies. We made our way to Basecamp Coffee Roasters. It’s located in the back corner of a very busy parking lot, but we had no problem finding parking. The shop was much grander than I expected. Colorful vintage style posters of National Parks are hung on the wall. Gorgeous live edge wood bar height tables are available to relax at. The space was very open and the lighting gave off an uncluttered spacious feel even though the shop was busy when I was there. It seemed like great spot to get remote work done; an entire side of the shop was full folks on their computers.
Be sure to take a glance at the coffee bags they have for sale. The bags are bright with vivid colors; several were for sale.
Above Basecamp Coffee Roasters is Vertical Rock Climbing and Fitness Center. My son used to be an avid climber so I made my way up the stairs to check it out. The space is large and it focuses on bouldering. In one corner is a fitness center and classes are available.
Obviously, I went there for the cortado and it was delicious, but I was too busy chatting with my friend I forgot to take a picture. ♀️

The barista who closed on October 28, had a terrible attitude. Yes I came in at 9:50pm ten minutes before they were closing, however it was a coffee emergency.
I tried to order something easy, coffee that was already made, but I think they already cleaned up so l ordered the creme brûlée latte since there was a little sign on the table advertising. First of all, the price of the latte was ridiculous… $10 for a latte and the barista didn’t even smile. When he gave me the drink I said thank you and he said nothing. I literally screamed thank you again, because I really don’t like when people are rude. That dude needs to get another job if he hates his so much. Also the coffee was not good. Never returning to this cafe again.

Tucked in the side of the shopping center is Basecamp coffee. I would have never known this placed existed until I was looking for a coffee shop in the area. Upstairs is a indoor climbing center. The ambiance is modern coffee shop, there was a couple of people working. The baristas was friendly and helpful.
It is nice they have a couple of options and speciality beans they feature. We got a lavender milk tea, latte and an ice coffee. The coffees were pretty good and the prices are what you expect. Some of the specialty beans are a bit more pricey. Either way, I’m glad this place exist.
