This place is a low key eatery for locals with very little frills and thrills. Three out of five stars for this “average” place, a rating of good food and decent service. I might give it a higher rating if it didn’t seem like the staff forgot they sat us or didn’t know who was helping our table.

The steak and cheese sandwich was on a hotdog bun, which the meet and cheese tasted great. But the presentation seemed to be lacking. I would have even taken toasted sliced bread over a hot dog bun. Call me picky, but that’s my personal opinion. I must admit the onion rings were the best part of the meal. They were the kind that were crispy, not greasy, and the onion stayed in the breading.

The Buffalo wings? I wish they were a little crispier on the the outside. They were just missing that nice outside crust and lacking a bit on the sauce factor.

I don’t think they have refills on sodas and non water beverages. I believe they are a la carte, but not mentioned anywhere to my knowledge.

Would I be willing to try this place again? Sure. Willing to try something else and give it another shot.

Looking for a place for lunch and found the American Cafe which is a storefront restaurant. Huge menu featuring a lot of Latin specialties.

Asked the owner what he recommended and stated the burgers. I tried the Buffalo Style Burger with lettuce, buffalo sauce, blue cheese. My wife chose the Fried Egg Burger with lettuce, tomato, bacon, and cheddar. Both were very good.

If you are in Glen Cove at lunch time, you must try the American Cafe.

pretty good prices and volume of food. i got the burrito supreme and thought it was wrapped well. the chipotle mayo is self applied, but i was hoping it would be poured inside already. my friends got the nachos, fish tacos, and steak tacos.
their phone is difficult to reach around dinner time though, i was put on hold and then they couldn’t hear me once they picked up again, so i had to call them several more times. otherwise, they fixed my order when i called within a few minutes of ordering since i messed up what i initially ordered. the place also has a non-cash charge. overall, a good place.

Good food with rotating specials. Waitstaff was pretty quick and was helpful with providing answers to menu questions. Prices were reasonable as well, and the food was prepared quickly and accurately. Would definitely recommend the Huevos Rancheros.

I came to the American Cafe for breakfast and appropriately go their breakfast platter. For about 12 dollars you get a pretty large meal that you can customize; I got two eggs, pancakes, meat, potatoes, and toast. this was an incredibly filling and tasty plate. In all honesty I was not able to finish it. My only complaint was the customer service. I thought the waiters were a little slow in ways. But in all fairness, this could have just been because it was early in the morning.

Phenomenal hidden gem in Glen Cove! We enjoyed an incredible breakfast. After being greeted by the fantastic and kind staff, we were immediately served freshly baked corn bread. Great menu with lots of solid options. The house-made hot sauce, will have you requesting if you can buy it by the case. Grilled chicken BLT as one of the best I’ve ever eaten.

Decent food, but not great.
Free corn muffins but a steep charge for chips and salsa.
Friendly service but inattentive.
Prices were on the high side for what it is.
They charged a 5% “Fee” on the bill after I used a credit card to pay. This is very unusual and there were no signs about this.
The brisket enchiladas were tasty but they were small for the $.
The kids liked their meals.

Some of the best ricotta blueberry pancakes I’ve ever had! Very casual, small but great selection of breakfast and lunch dishes.

The food was very good we had two sandwiches. One pulled pork and the other pulled beef. They were $9.00 each but were stuffed and delicious. We brought home half each and had them for dinner the next day. The place is small and doesn’t look like much but the service was good . The bathroom was clean although they lost water at one point? The owner had his children there to help. They had an app to take $5.00 off the bill and did. I bought a flan for my son which leaked all over… The flan was tasty but very orangery in flavor. I’m used to straight caramel. It was good as well. If you’re up he.re its a good reasonable place to go.
