Went here this past week and I was worried at first since I came later in the day that everything might not be fresh. BUT let me tell you, EVERYTHING was fresh, hot and most of all, DELICIOUS! I’m so glad I stopped by here, can’t wait to pass through Auburn again just to stop by. Also had a slice of their red velvet cake and it was a TRUE old fashion Cake

A Taste of Home That’ll Make You Question Your Upbringing (in the Best Way Possible)
If you’re looking for true Southern soul food that’ll have you calling your mama asking her to apologize for her cooking skills, this is your spot. Southern & Savory Café isn’t just serving up food – they’re serving up feelings. Grandma’s holding down the register, and her magic in the kitchen will make your taste buds tap-dance with joy.
The fried pork chops? Absolute perfection … crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. The fried okra might just be the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve eaten more than my fair share across the South. My buddy went for the fried chicken and couldn’t say much because, well, his mouth was full the entire time (which I’m taking as a five-star endorsement).
Everything about this place feels authentic, from the friendly welcome to the generous portions that make you feel like you’re sitting at your grandma’s Sunday table. The prices are fair, the portions hearty, and the atmosphere pure Southern comfort.
If you’re anywhere nearby, go ahead and pull in. Bring your appetite, loosen your belt, and prepare for some good eating that’ll make you rethink every drive-thru decision you’ve ever made.

I went visited during the holidays just to try them out from the Facebook listings. The first time I got the oxtail plate and baked chicken plate for my husband. The oxtails were very tuff, and the sides were ok. My husband baked chicken tasted to baked. I came back this week just to give them another try. I got the pork chops mashed and green beans. The food was hot & fresh but the PC was so thin I could have settled for one thick one. The mashed potatoes tasted straight out the box watered down and the green beans were salty. The prices of the food is high. The oxtails were very expedient the taste. The young lady rang me up for a tea and when I asked for the cup the Caucasian lady ask did I pay for it and the girl had to look it up before she handed me the cup. Not friendly but I got that impression the first time from the cashier that I visited the restaurant. I definitely won’t be back.

Saw this place from a TikTok about a baked potato. We went on a Tuesday and they don’t have potatoes then, but we stayed anyways after seeing the menu. Food was delicious, priced VERY well for all what you get and the love and labor that goes into it. I got the dark and light meat chicken, limas beans and peas, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. When I go back, I’ll skip the potatoes, but everything was so good it tasted like what I grew up eating. Peach cobbler was to die for. Lady who took my order was a little stand offish, but the other woman taking orders came and picked up our plates when we were done and blessed us on our way out. Owner stopped us on the way and was super sweet! Very clean, food was so hot and fresh. Will be back 100%.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would! Never in my life have I eaten a plate of food so fast and without adding any seasoning or condiments! Today was my first visit of many more to come. I had the fried whitefish filet with Cajun cabbage, green beans, and sweet tea. Best Southern home cooked made with love food I’ve put in my mouth, literally Ever. “Kiss the Chef”… I would have! The Cafe is clean, the staff is friendly, and my food came out in less than 5 minutes after ordering at the counter. It is worth every cent (and leave a tip – they clear the table after you leave).

Really good food. Short wait times. A touch pricy but you won’t regret spending the money. Meatloaf, mac n cheese, green beans, candied yams & corn bread were amazing. Lemon pound cake was dry & I couldn’t taste any lemon, but it was sweet & fluffy, so I ate it all. This place has definitely been added to my rotation of places to eat.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Southern & Savory and had been wanting to try it for a while, even though it’s a bit out of my way. I finally stopped in after the lunch rush and was promptly greeted.
I ordered the fried pork chops with mac & cheese, cole slaw, cornbread, and sweet tea. Total was $16.55. After about a seven minute wait, my name was called and I picked up my tray. First impression? The plate looked great.
I tried the cole slaw first, even before taking a picture. It was good, but had a flavor I couldn’t quite place. Almost like turmeric. Different, but still better than most slaw around here.
After snapping a quick photo, I sampled the pork chop crust. Nice and crunchy like it should be, but noticeably salty. I pulled a small piece of meat from the back of the bone. It seemed okay at first, but as I chewed, there was a flavor that didn’t sit right.
When I bit into the side of the chop, that same flavor hit again, stronger this time. It tasted either like pork that was starting to turn or like it had been fried in oil used for fish and absorbed that flavor. Unfortunately, that ended the pork chops for me. I ate everything else on the plate instead.
The mac & cheese was room temperature and on the higher end of average. The cornbread was also room temperature but good. The sweet tea was definitely sweet, so I cut it with some unsweetened tea.
After finishing, I took my tray to the counter and politely asked if the pork chops might have been fried in the same oil as fish, which was also on the lunch menu, since that would explain what I tasted. The lady at the counter told me they don’t do that and have two separate fryers.
I was fine with that answer and tried to explain that I was only sharing how the chops tasted to me, possibly that they were going off, but she walked into the back before I could finish.
The owner came out with a cheery southern smile and classic auntie demeanor, but the tone quickly shifted. She repeated what the first lady had said, more aggressively, as if I had accused them of frying the pork in fish oil, when I had only asked if it was possible. Each time I tried to clarify, I was cut off. Message received. They were not fried with fish.
She asked if I wanted more pork chops. No. Maybe some baked chicken? Also no. Then she asked for my name for the next time I come back. I gave it and explained that I’m rarely in the area and this visit was a special trip just to eat here.
There was no mention or offer of a discount or adjustment, despite the main entrée not being eaten or enjoyed.
I chalk the experience up as a $16 lesson and will spend my money at other establishments when I’m in the area.
[EDIT] After two days of suffering and many flushes later I can say that the pork chops were spoiled…
Dropped from two stars to one

My mom and I were in the area. We stopped by during lunch. It was not very busy although they had several seated guests and a steady stream of customers. We were greeted by friendly staff. The menu was complete with a good selection of southern food. We ordered our food from the counter and dined in. We did not have to wait long for our food. My fried chicken was perfect and my mother said that it was the best fried pork chop she had from a restaurant in years. My fault for not asking beforehand, but the turnips had bits of bacon. Overall we did enjoy our dining experience. I would like to have came on a day when they had different menu choices as I understand their items do rotate and change frequently. The restaurant and the bathroom were clean, spacious, and well supplied. They could easily host a large group. It is located on the far corner of the plaza; and note that the parking lot is small.
