This review is based on a single visit.

Featuring local Hawaiian dishes, the food is pretty good. Chicken, beef, ribs, rice, macaroni salad, etc. I love Hawaiian food and this is a great place to get some.

Service is a bit slow as preparing some of the dishes requires time to put them together properly. Order ahead if you’re in a hurry.

The dining room and open design and the tables are reasonably spaced. There’s plenty of room to relax and enjoy a meal.

The parking lot is small. Around meal times, I suspect the lot can get full. Additional parking is available behind the restaurant and requires a short walk.

The driveways to the parking lot might be difficult to navigate for larger vehicles. Be careful entering and exiting the parking lot as traffic moves pretty fast.

First time visitor and did not disappoint! I’d been traveling all day and hadnt had a full meal. The protein plate DID NOT let me down. Outstanding flavor and a very good portion. Would definitely try take out again from this establishment. Fast and friendly service as well.

I have tried the L&L Hawaiian Barbecue many times in Dallas and Oahu, sad to say that the flavor of the Kalua Pig and BBQ chicken is not there at this branch.

The place is in kinda decent shape. The menu screens cycle a little too fast, but you have plenty of time to figure out what you want while you wait for the workers to decide to come out of the back to take your order.
I went for the BBQ Beef Bowl and paid extra for it to be topped with an egg and some gravy. The gravy was way too salty – kinda tasted like a concentrate that they forgot to dillute – which provided a stark contrast to the completely unseasoned mushy vegetables. The beef was okay, but there were a few tough, chewy pieces and a couple of big chunks of gristle.
My wife’s Katsu Chicken had a nice crispy breading, but the meat was dry and a little gray around the edges. The macaroni was room temperature and dry.
Gyoza were decent, but we paid way too much to get some subpar cafeteria food in styrofoam (we dined in). Definitely won’t be back.

We were going to Bill Miller’s, but then we saw this restaurant across the road and it looked interesting to us. We decided to check it out instead. The menu is straightforward. Island style barbecue. We tried the big platter sampler and it was big enough to be shared by two. The barbecue was really good. We thought the macaroni salad that came with it was special. We enjoyed it. We even was able to take some home. The platter had beef, ribs, and chicken barbecue portions. The drink was bottled. The atmosphere is more of a regular cafe than Hawaiian ambience. We will try different locations in San Antonio.

I feel 3 stars is generous. The food was ok at best. Very greasy and the flavors just seemed off. The shrimp had the slight taste of burnt grease. Chicken wasn’t horrible. Cashier was absolutely zero help and said she couldn’t give us any recommendations and gave us a lot of “I don’t know” answers to our menu questions. First and last time we’ll eat here.

*update*
I have come back and edited the score because now my wife and I have food poisoning. Definitely 10/10 do NOT recommend.

I called in to change my order and ask a question about the chicken katsu, the worker did not know how to change the order or what was in the sauce. When I walked in, a little bell or chime played, the worker continued her conversation with her back facing me. She did not stop talking to the chef until he told her he would talk to her after we were helped. Stood there for at least a minute as she talked, made no sense to me as the door chime was loud enough for anyone to hear we had walked in. She made no effort to turn around until the chef had said something. I looked in my bag and saw sauces but asked for an extra one. She proceeded to tell me she already put sauce in there and I had to once again ask for sauce. I saw the sauces and I’m asking for extra, I’m unsure why there was pushback for a sauce.

The food was not good. The lumpia had no flavor and was a bit soggy. The chicken and mac salad also lacked flavor.

Would not recommend as the food and service could be way better. I’d also like to note we were the only customers in store so I am truly lost as to how we were treated.

L & L !!!! Enough said !!

Used to go to L & L when I lived in Hawai’i. So yes, this is authentic. Also been to a few in California a few times. So I was so happy to hear there were local spots in SA.

My go to….loco moco every time. If you don’t know it. 2 beef patties on top of white rice with gravy and eggs on top. With a scoop of Mac salad.

It was ono licious !!! Superb. The mac salad is historic. The rice. The patties. All of it!! Same as in Hawai’i.

Add a passion fruit guava drink. Ohhh myyy!!

They also have other delicious meals like chicken katsu and teriyaki beef or chicken. You can’t get me away from the loco moco.

Try it ..tell me it’s not awesome !!

LL Hawaiian BBQ has been one of my favorites for as long as I can remember! We hit up the New Braunfels location on our way back from ATX. I stuck with my usual pork katsu and double mac salad, while my wife got the beef with double rice. Everything was so good, and the staff was awesome!
