IT ALL STARTED WHEN… The dream of Nick Page and Gretchen Smith, along with their parents Jim and Barbara Didlo, came to fruition with Metropolitan Coffee. In 2002 they created a cozy and inviting atmosphere with comfortable seating and an eclectic art deco feel where you could enjoy a quality espresso drink with friends. In August of 2008, Jim and Myra Kitson purchased the shop and have continued the tradition of quality drinks and pastries in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with the help of their son and daughter-in-law. The Kitson family is passionate about continuing the tradition of quality in local business. Visitors to the shop can also enjoy a magazine or book from our shelves or play one of the provided games with friends.

I go here whenever I’m in town to meet up with a good friend in the area. Great place for that – comfortable chairs & couches, good for conversation. Had a few tables and people studying, but spacious and spread out enough that you don’t feel like you’re disruptive for having a lively discussion. I’ve just had coffee, chai, and a smoothie once, all top tier. They had a variety of baked goods that looked delicious, and an evolving menu besides the staples you’d expect. Great place, what a code shop should be.

The best frappe I’ve ever had, the Brave Bessie Freeze is delicious and reminds me of butterbeer from Harry Potter. My husband got a latte with praline and vanilla. Both drinks are amazing, and the staff is one in a million. So sweet so polite!!! A definite recommendation to go to while in KS.

Best coffee shop in town. Great atmosphere for hanging out, chatting, or laptop working. Always friendly service. Latte art quality varies depending on the barista from a blob of foam to real art. Delicious scones.

Staff was super friendly and helpful. The Caramel Bean frozen drink is amazing!! They have many more drinks on the online menu than posted in the store. Super fast service. Has a huge seating area to visit and read. Lots of knick knacks to purchase.

We were really impressed with the quality and quantity of the food here. Owners are very polite. Very spacious location. Coffee tastes just right! The prices are very reasonable as well. There’s plenty of space available to come sit down and read a book while you’re enjoying your favorite coffee. I felt like they could make the seating area a bit more cozy with adding some booths. We will definitely pay a visit again!

When i walked in I was pleasantly taken aback by the rustic decor of dark woods, tastefully mismatched furniture and varying small nooks and seating arrangements. It has the effect of being interesting as well as inviting. The only major detractor from the wonder i would normally have felt was the dust! It was everywhere except the serving and eating areas!
The coffee and food are quite tasty; although they seemed to make one of two assumptions. 1.) I would either want my cinnamon bread cold or 2.) would automatically know where the microwave was… tucked out of sight (unless you’re scanning for it) between the edge of the bar and the wall as it is. Overall, it was a semi-pleasant experience, but when I go again, I’m going to scan for cleanliness before I order.

I found Metropolitan Coffee while I am here in Hutchinson working on a construction project. Staff is awesome, and they make a better product than Starbucks and Scooters. I highly recommend going to Metropolitan Coffee.

Chill atmosphere for a coffee and a place to sit and read or even have a meeting with friends or colleagues. We were there near close and they were so cool about us being there past actual closing time. Played “Closing Time” at 8:05p which made our table chuckle.
