It was so yummy and it definitely was a hidden gem. Anyone who is going to Stowe I recommend stopping here. This is my first time having a fixed course menu, and it was the best. The service was also amazing despite it being Christmas Eve. The place was very cute too. We will be back 1000%.
We sat at the bar where Joey took excellent care of us. One dish after the other impressed our senses and palates.
Such an excellent 1st experience and we look so forward to returning!
Having tried many award winning restaurants across 6 continents I can honestly say that Starry Night Café is worth a trip.
The first mistake was right when we were seated. They say the two of us next to two large very noisy groups of 5+ people so we couldn’t hear ourselves think for most of the dinner, but that’s not a horrendous mess up if the restaurant is busy.
The second mistake was the steak tartare. It was almost perfect except that the puffed rice they served with it was burnt and could be tasted through the cardamom seeds and creamy beef flavors very strongly. Other than that the tartare was very well blended between seasoning and beef flavors.
The final mistake was with my pasta dish, the caccio e pepe, or cheese and pepper noodles. The noodles were almost raw when first served and had to be sent back for additional cooking.
The positives overall outweighed the negatives and flavor wise everything was exceptional. The sirloin steak with black garlic was phenomenal, and the black garlic was noticeable but soft enough to blend in with the herbs and potatoes smoothly. The pot de creme was a nice blend of sweet maple cream, tart sauce and candied nuts and the lavender lemon cake was absolutely flawless.
The menu could have used a poultry and more local ingredients but the food was fantastic. We had the halibut, salmon, and salad. Halibut was beautifully cooked and paired well with muscles and hazelnuts. Salad was lightly dressed a chamomile vinaigrette and paired with toasted sunflower seeds.
If you’re visiting Vermont then starry night cafe should be at the top of your list.
