The Fare:
Ordered an Oak, and a Carrot cocktail. The Oak being their spin on an Old Fashioned at it’s probably one of the best ones I’ve had in recent memory.
Had the focaccia bread with chicken skin butter, and while the chicken skin flavor didn’t really come through, the honey and thyme did. Along with the bread that you could tell was definitely baked in house, great start.
I went with the braised short ribs (always a sucker for those when it’s on the menu). Did not expect the braised short ribs to NOT be the star of the dish (though it was still amazing). On top of the cuts of beef were little crispy onion bits that added this wonderful texture and depth of flavor. The acid of the beet reduction with it made for a seriously awesome bite. But the true game changer was the “moussed” potatoes. Might be one of the singularly most unique elements in a plate I’ve ever tasted. Light and fluffy but absolutely loaded with flavor; 100% something I will remember for the rest of my days.
We topped it off with a Blueberry sorbet that somehow fizzed and tickled the bottom of your tongue. No idea how you get ice cream to do that, but I didn’t hate it.
You’ll drop $150-175 with drinks and dessert, $100 if you’re just there for the main/appetizers, but for us, it was worth every penny.
The service from all staff was excellent. I love it when my table is wiped clean between courses, especially if the table gets a little crumby from the delish bread.
The “Let Us Feed You” was a tasting menu without calling it that. The description is a little misleading as it says “3 course, family style meal”. When I think family style, I envision a vat of food that each person has to scoop onto their plate (like Bucca de Peppo or Stroud’s) so I would never have chosen that if the server didn’t explain it better. The first and second course had multiple dishes. It was more of a tapa style tasting menu. Absolutely fabulous! I am floored that it was only $80 a person for that much food. We love to go to different tasting menu options in Kansas City and I can tell you, none of them are only $80. We were stuffed when we were done (which isn’t always the case w tasting menus) so it was WELL WORTH IT! The food was so good. I’m still thinking about the lovely carrot and pesto starter. The crackers w sweet peppers was also memorable. Everything we ate was superb. I also appreciated the variety of non-alcoholic drink options. My wife liked the interesting vegetable twists on her cocktails, like a smoked celery martini and a sweet pepper old fashioned. Be advised, go with a foodie if you want to try the tasting menu because to order it, it requires your whole table to choose that option.
We had the fixed menu without the pairing.
It was AMAZING! Even the way they served the food with 4 or five servers coming out at the same time was impressive. And the main server Caity was knowledgeable and very nice
The farm to table food to delicious and light with some veggies coming from the garden just outside the venue. The whole evening was just perfect. I would definitely go again and highly recommend anyone to go and have this experience. 5* all the way!
Parking is across the street at the cortex. Parking is validated.
Only downside was table next to us was VERY loud. It made for a semi uncomfortable experience.
