While driving the scenic route to Balsam Knob (since parts of the blue ridge parkway are closed) we had to stop at Doc Brown’s to find out what all the hype was about. Sure as the reviews this place is a true foodie heaven. Real ingredients, real service, real music. The home made wafers in the banana pudding are so incredible. They even have vegetarian options! Doc Browns does it best.

From the time you walk into the building the lady at register was extremely nice and welcoming, not only with us but with every customer that came in. The true definition of good customer service! AMAZING.! We order a little of everything brisket, 3 different type of ribs, half a chicken, tri tip steak, Mac and cheese pie, collard greens greens, banana pudding and all their sauces. The food was AMAZING! A MUST TRY!!!! We enjoyed EVERY SINGLE BITE and some the next day. I loved their spicy bbq sauce a little hit in the back making it just perfect. The tri-tip steak comes w a green sauce it looks like a chimichurri sorry forgot the name but it was Soooooooo good as well.. just try it.

First time trying Doc Brown’s and as we were standing at the counter looking at the menu a regular customer started bragging on the food. She ordered ahead for a group and was so excited it was our first time trying them out. That’s an awesome testimonial!
We each ordered a pulled pork plate which each comes with 2 sides and a corn bread muffin for $11.95 a plate. We sat and within a short wait of less than five minutes our food arrived. The collards were delicious and the Mac and cheese pie was a little dry but tasted great. The pulled pork was good but unfortunately was not hot. We chose not to say anything but it sounds like that isn’t the norm.
Sauces were on the table with a slightly spicy red vinegar, sweet bbq, and mustard bbq (I enjoyed them all!). The corn bread muffin is sweet and yummy also.
It was plenty to eat. I’ll return and get heated food next time.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Service was good and I was served quickly and the food was okay. The pulled beef is what I had and it was more like beef stew. Seemed like a lot of staple items at a BBQ joint were crossed off, like brisket and a couple of others I couldn’t really make out. Didn’t seem like a lot for $15.49, in fairness to them I am a pretty big eater. Didn’t seem to have the smoker smell in the restaurant or on the food. Not really my kind of place.

We are out-of-state visitors, here for 2 weeks visiting family in Raleigh and Asheville and were on our way back to Asheville from 2days fishing at lake Nantahala and decided not to travel on the main highway which took us right past Doc Brown’s at lunchtime. The parking lot and drive thru both had several cars so we looped around and went in to give it a try. It’s a small space, small picnic bench tables, counter space and 2 small booths. We were welcomed right away and were left to decide what we wanted from the single page typed menu which listed the options: sandwiches or plates made with the varied meats. Some were listed as (later) which we were told meant that they were still on the smoker, not yet available. There were many sides listed, cold and hot. We chose a pulled pork sandwich and potato salad as well as 4 pork spareribs, 2 ‘wet’ & 2 ‘glazed’ which were sauced differently (and deliciously), baked beans and a cucumber and tomato salad. Everything came out in less than 10 minutes and the different sauces were explained and we ate till we were ready to pop! The sandwich was stuffed full and the ribs were meaty and so good. We’ve been trying bbq anywhere we can on our travels and this has been ranked #1 in our opinion. Go early or order ahead as they run out of meats as the day progresses. Yum.

Great local BBQ restaurant and food truck. Nice smokey flavor & tasty sides. The service is friendly & helpful. They often offer original flavors of slaw, and sometimes you can order a flight of slaws. If you can catch them with the sausage on the menu, do not pass it up! Canned local brews & sodas available. Indoor seating & outdoor picnic tables. I really like the artwork on the walls. Live music weekly.

Stopped in yesterday having a craving for brisket. This spot did not disappoint – the brisket was full of flavor and nice and moist. Beans on the side were great as well as mac and cheese. We shall return.

So worth getting off 40 for this!! Starting with the bun, sweet and fluffy…just perfect. My husband got the pork sandwich and I got the brisket. Hands FABULOUS!! The meat wasn’t over seasoned and like butter!!! The beans and Mac cheese, well you just gotta get your own! Definitely will return next trip!

Doc Brown’s catered our wedding of 120 guests last month and it was a great experience. Their pricing was very fair, especially compared to some of the other quotes we received, and everyone loved the food. David was great to work with – flexible with menu changes, attentive to dietary needs like gluten-free and vegetarian options, and generous with the full tasting he offered us early on. If you’re planning a larger event, we’d definitely recommend giving Doc Brown’s a look. And if you’re just after some great BBQ, it’s absolutely worth a visit.
