⚠️ Warning: If you don’t like genuine smiles, ridiculously good food, cozy little nooks, and being treated like an actual human instead of an order number… this place is not for you.
From the moment I walked in, the owners were nothing but kind, welcoming, and warm. We had the best conversation while I waited for my order, and I left feeling like a friend—not a transaction. That kind of hospitality is rare, and it’s a perfect reflection of true Midwestern values. ❤️
Now let’s talk food… because WOW.
The fried catfish filets? Unreal.
The chicken fingers? Crispy perfection.
The cheese curds, fries, and onion rings? Absolute comfort-food royalty!
Everything was mouth-watering, fresh, and made with care. You can taste the love in every bite.
The history of this place is just as beautiful as the food—authentic, nostalgic, and full of heart. It feels like stepping into a piece of the past in the best possible way.
If you’re into fancy-pants, trendy, “look at my plate but don’t feed me” restaurants… this isn’t your place. Honestly? It would be too good for you anyway.
But if you love warm smiles, real hospitality, and leaving with a happy belly and a happy soul—don’t waste time. Go get yourself a meal to die for.

This is a very small establishment so I would assume a large portion of their business is carryout which is what we did on this visit. I called in our order the gentleman who answered and took my order was very friendly and helpful. We ordered 2 half chicken meals (which came with a choice of potato and salad) & onion rings. We were told our order would take 30-35 minutes and that is what it took. Our food was very good everything was hot and fresh even though we took it to go. The onionrings were not the frozen type you get at most places they were hand dipped and fried to a perfect doneness and so was the chicken.
Don’t let the outside of the building influence you because the inside is clean and comfortable. They only have a few tables so it is not set up for a huge group. I should also point out tbey do not take credit cards.

Great little place. Very tight inside, I would recommend taking to go. Got a hotdog, lemonade, and clam strips. The was out of this world. Perfectly cooked and topped with fresh ingredients. The clam strips were fried and cooked well. I enjoyed them thoroughly for what seemed like frozen strips at most places.
The place was hopping at lunch time. Lots of call in orders and walk-ins too! Everyone had something good to say and a recommendation to try.

Loved the BPT. Wish I got everyone’s name there, all the staff was awesome. We stayed way longer than it took to eat and jawed with the girls and Don. Very reasonable priced food, breading on the BPT was great. Believe me if you get the big BPT, you will not need any other food. It’s monstrous.

Simple good food in an old school environment. Cheeseburgers are really good. The dining area is very small but there’s always been a table for me and my workers. Extensive menu. Fried catfish is crispy and crunchy outside and hot and tender inside. Good hard working couple that are friends to the working class.

It’s the west end hidden gem! I gave 5 stars for everything. The food is always good, you can not beat the prices. The service is always on the spot, and friendly. The atmosphere gets a 5 for its character, only a few tables in a block wall building, old school! I no longer live in the area but Dons is always on my list when I’m home. Candlelight, Arthur’s, Angelo’s, Al and Ledas, Kelly’s and Dons! Don’s was checked off tonight and was as good as always! Don’t let that little block building fool you. There’s great food inside. Order the burrito, I’ll bet you can’t finish it!

Can’t say enough good things about this place. Not only is the food great (quality, taste, and portion sizes), but you cannot beat the price ***A little over 20 bucks for a 14 piece bone in dinner!?!?* *** After chatting with them, I found out that keeping prices reasonable was extremely important. They have had increases in their food costs and refuse to raise the prices if they don’t have to. These folks really care about their customers. Think that’s honestly the most important factor in who I choose to spend my money with. They have the best customer service. Hands down. Didn’t take long at all before she remembered my voice and knew our entire order. Heard the rest of their menu is just as good as the chicken, but we haven’t been able to find out. Can’t get enough of their fried chicken. Looking forward to trying everything else!…. Someday.
