Staff attentive and friendly. Compliments to the chef it was delicious. This is at Newbo so plenty of parking available. Well lit and spacious. In my opinion this is awesome food. Come check out their menu.
I have been wanting to try one of the newer additions to the market, Nechus Food and I am so glad I finally made it!
Their cuisine is South American and I found it quite surprising!
Many of their dishes are based around the arepa. Arepas are small, disc shaped flatbreads, but rather than using flour they are made with fine corn (maize) meal.
This gives them a totally different texture from the flatbreads we are used to.
The only comparable dish I can think of is the Central American pupusa.
The familiar Mexican huarache is comprised of similar ingredients, but has a much different flavor and texture.
I found the arepa light, very subtly flavored, and a fabulous base for the fillings.
They are available a number of ways, I chose chicken and cheese, the Catira.
The chicken was a surprise, it was quite finely pulled, and although possessing a good flavor, quite mild.
I had thought it might be spicy, I have little experience with South American cuisine and came into the experience with a bias.
It was satisfying and delicious, and although exotic here in the Midwest, felt totally natural to my Midwestern palate.
The chicken was juicy and cooked perfectly to let its natural flavor shine through.
The cheese was plentiful, tasting like a very mild cheddar, and going well with the subtle flavor profile of the dish.
I also had an empanada, again going with chicken.
It was fried to a light-medium crisp, and not over-filled, having a good balance between the savory flavor of the fried shell and the meaty flavor of the chicken.
Both dishes were presented with a lovely avocado condiment, again totally different from guacamole or avocado salsa, and absolutely perfect with both dishes!
I will definitely be going back, there are a couple of dishes calling my name, the Patacon, a sammie made from flattened pieces of green plantain filled with beef or chicken, and Salchipapas, French fries with house sauce, chopped sausage, corn, bacon and cheese ‼️
The lovely people working their magic behind the counter were friendly, enthusiastic, and eager to share their delicious cuisine.
If you have even half a chance stop by their spot and try any one of their yummy dishes!
