I came back to the restaurant to show the food. My kids had already eaten the rice, so I only brought the lamb, beef, and lula. When I asked the owner to smell the beef, he refused and threw everything straight into the trash. Instead of calmly resolving the issue and refunding me, he kept insisting the meat was fresh. In the end, he only returned part of the money, and even that felt like he was doing me a favor.
I honestly thought this place was good, but it turned out to be very disappointing. Whatever the owner replies to this review, please don’t fall for it. I’m sharing my real experience, and I’m attaching photos so you can judge for yourselves.
EDIT: If you see my reviews, I’ve written glowing praise for several Mediterranean restaurants (including those in West Lafayette). I am not biased for any cuisine nor advertising (as I have no stake in any restaurant). I am also VERY familiar with Mediterranean cuisine from extensive travel to the region itself. Taste is an individual matter – and that’s the whole point of writing a review. Portion size do not make up for blandness of food or dislike for taste (which again is individual-specific). Recommendation and advertisement are two very different things. People go to restaurants not just for the cuisine or the portion size or cost, but also for the taste – and someone does not like it, they just don’t like it. In that location, there are several other restaurants to choose from.
I did appreciate the large portions for the rice which came with the Sultan’s Kebab, and you will have leftovers unless you are a big back. The backlava was delicious. Overall, it’s a good spot to go for a different type of food in WL.
Be it the one protein or two protein bowl, the one thing that’s assured is that it will fill your stomach up. Hala’s grill offers a variety of toppings and sauces (suitable for vegan and vegetarians too) that will satisfy all taste buds. They make the bowl to order, so it’s fresh and hot when you eat it. The place itself isn’t much, just a capacity of 6-8 people, but the food is so good, and value for money, that it will keep you coming back!
All of our meals were very good and fresh.
