Boondocks is our go to when company visits. The wait staff is 10 out of 10 when it comes to service. Well behaved dogs are always welcome in the outdoor (but covered) seating area. My go to is the small fish and chips. Be sure and try the onion petals as a side. The lime cervas is the perfect pairing. Hard to go wrong with good food and cold beers. ENJOY!

We really enjoyed this restaurant. Food was good. The prices were definitely reasonable. I love the location. You can walk around Main Street. I definitely recommend the shrimp tacos. Also, we enjoyed the chicken salad. The chicken salad was a great size very flavorful and so were the shrimp. I did not want the chips and salsa so veggies instead very delicious.

We were waited on by Cita and had a great experience. Food, service, atmosphere were great. Then I accidentally left my credit card on the table and did not miss it until the next day. Cita had found it and left it in a locked box waiting for me the evening I left it. Very honest.

1/7/26 we took a ride to the high country and stopped by boondocks our first time at your restaurant and your staff Muriel was exceptional. We asked her for beer suggestions and what would her choice be for lunch .Both of her suggestions were outstanding. It’s so good to get great service these days. Keep up the good work your staff has earned our repeat business

After a very long wait for our food about 55 minutes my classic burger was okay the Philly steak was a little better than the classic burger My pasta salad was actually good and the homemade chips are okay. Overall I think you can find a better restaurant in the area that can get it done faster. They did remove the burger from my bill because of the extreme wait.

Nice place to stop for lunch while in town. Casual. Spacious inside and in covered dining area “outside”. Plenty of menu options. Food for several in my party of five was served lukewarm. Pot roast was plentiful and tasty., as was the chicken salad. Wait staff was friendly.
UPDATE July 15, 2024: Owner Gary read my review, investigated the reason for the lukewarm-served food and responded. He graciously provided a credit to compensate. Caring and professional. Thank you.

Good draft beer selection, great food, courteous staff. Visited March 2025. My portion of catfish and chips was very good; the breading was light and nicely seasoned with the fish cooked to moist and flaky perfection. my companions had similar opinions of their food; there’s also a fair selection of menu items for the vegetarians in the group. the draft beer selection is varied and features mostly local brews but they also offer a good selection of domestics (ex. BL). Recommended stop in West Jefferson.

Had a fabulous late lunch with friends at Boondocks this Saturday! Muriel, the bartender, was fun and vibrant and made the day even better. Took time to get to know us and even took our picture so we could remember this day even better! Great atmosphere and the best meal we have had to date in our many visits to West Jefferson this year! Will definitely be back!!!

This place is just so comfortable once you walk in. Everyone is so so kind and you can tell they love working there. The food is excellent and the atmosphere. The hospitality is amazing. Thank you Muriel, Alaina, Alexis, Sierra, Serena, Larry, Pam, Justin, and Tommy. Much appreciated and we will definitely be back.

The Berry Harvest Salad is a must!!!! The goat cheese sets this off with the flavors. Perfectly combined. Just wow!

Had the Burger and beer cheese fries. Thank you Morgan for the excellent service with my bestie. That meant so much.

I’m honestly blown away by our recent visit. We were charged $35 for a single pour of Buffalo Trace, which is wild enough — but a double came out to almost $75. For context, it was served in a small glass with ice and Sprite, nothing premium about it. A reasonable markup is expected, but this was straight-up price gouging.

We also ordered wings, meatloaf, a sandwich, and four drinks, and our total was almost $200. For what we received, that price is unbelievable. We still tipped well over 20% because we always take care of servers, but as locals, this was extremely disappointing.

I even called and left voicemails to speak with management before posting this review, and no one has called back. If you’re going to charge premium-steakhouse prices for basic items, the least you could do is communicate with your customers.

A markup is normal.
This was straight stealing.
We won’t be back.
