While we are the oldest bar in the Gaslamp, operating since 1881 (Wyatt Earp was a regular here), we are still a locally-owned & operated bar/kitchen providing a friendly atmosphere while serving a wide variety of drink selections as well as handcrafted food for your pleasure. A great place to hang out with friends/family, meet new friends or just relax with some great food & drinks. Our philosophy has always been ILOVIT (TIVOLI spelled backwards)

Long-standing haunt serving basic beers & bar bites in welcoming, unpretentious digs.

We walked into this historic bar excited to learn more about the Gaslamp Tavern as the oldest bar in the area – and it did not disappoint. We were thrilled to meet Robert and his brother, who generously shared the stories behind the photos on the walls and their family’s history.

We also loved meeting Darlene and Sam, who made these Mississippi folks seriously consider moving to San Diego just to be their friends.

This historic bar absolutely deserves a stop on your trip to San Diego. We can’t recommend it highly enough.

Thank you all for such a wonderful, memorable time!

I’m not a bar regular but I do have a weird love for dive bars. I seek them out when we travel. The Tivoli checks all the boxes for a dive bar in the best possible way. First and foremost, the staff was fantastic. Darlene was our bartender and she’s the real deal. Friendly, personable, and knows how to make a great drink. My wife and I had Bloody Mary’s and they were perfectly made. I watched her make gin martinis for another customer and it’s clear she is a REAL bartender not someone just doing a job. Sam made us food, a TJ dog and hot wings. Both were delicious. I was impressed by his attention to detail. He explained every menu item and you can tell he cares about the quality of his product. The atmosphere is what you want in a dive bar. A combination of local history, old sports memorabilia, and random pictures from the past. The value here is also outstanding. To be able to get a really good cocktail for around $10 today isn’t a given. The food was also reasonably priced. If you’re in the Gaslamp area don’t miss this place. If you’re not in the area but like a good dive bar it’s worth coming to on it’s own. Probably have a plan to not drive afterwards.

Stopped in for a quick bite and beverage. Service was friendly and fast. Seating was good but can get crowded at times. Lotsa history and baseball memorabilia.

Great drinks and great food! We got hooked up with amazing food, didn’t even have to look at a menu, we were brought food and it was amazing! If you’re chill and looking for a good time, come here!

Greatest vibe I’ve had in a long time. Felt instantly at home, had instant rapport with the owners that are actively on/off-site involved daily. Their family history is spoken throughout the many photos, autographs and other memorabilia placed throughout the venue.
Servers were quick to greet, serve and even mingle when time allowed. You know it’s a great place when staff prefers to relax on site during their breaks with patrons that have become friends.
The prices are very affordable, as is the food!
I highly recommend stopping by!
Oh and the sports presence is large and the venue is conveniently located only a few blocks from the Padre stadium.

Jessica is the sweetest bar manager I have ever met. She took me in like family. I live two blocks away and make it a point to visit 2-3 times a day. The decore is reminecent of the Italian city of Tivoli and has photos throughout the establishment of first responders. Katy is kind, beautiful, and hilarious! I highly recommend going here to grab some delicious food, drink with friends, and or have a business meeting.

I cannot stress enough how awful this experience was. The bouncer at Tivoli Tavern is genuinely the meanest, most miserable human being I have ever met in my entire life. From the second we walked up, he treated us with complete disrespect. Our friends were already inside, but he flat-out refused to let us in. Until some regular told him to let us in.

It got worse. When we were leaving, my friend realized she had forgotten her phone inside. She asked politely if she could run back in to grab it, and he refused. Not just a firm “no,” but aggressively rude about it, as if we were bothering him by even asking. When she tried to explain, he actually PUSHED her. Yes—physically shoved her. I have a video of this happening, and it’s disgusting that a bar would ever employ someone who thinks this behavior is okay.

This was not just unfriendly or strict—this man went out of his way to be as mean, condescending, and unpleasant as possible. It ruined the night, and frankly, I don’t know how this place hasn’t fired him yet.

Tivoli Tavern should be ashamed of themselves for letting someone like this represent their business. If you value basic human decency and safety, do NOT go here.

Wow!!!! What a awesome place to grab a bite to eat and a cold drink. It’s almost like walking in to a time capsule of all the great things about San Diego. Love, Love, Love it❤❤❤. First time I came in I was treated like family. What a great group of people. Hospitality defined.
