This is a small gem in Hurst(yes, Hurst) that is a Vietnamese owned French bakery. The owner is incredibly skilled and creative with her pastries.
Nothing that I’ve had is overly sweet, which is exactly how I like it. But you can tell that she puts time and effort into every cake and pastry that they produce.
The flavors and varieties are great for such a small place and everything I’ve had is incredible.
Give them a try when you are craving a party or a really well made (non giant chain) local coffee.
I asked if they have any small cakes for sale and she pointed me to this other fridge behind the rotating cake display. There were a couple of small cakes, but I got the Italian Cream and my sister got the Black Forest. The Asian lady was super sweet. She brought us the pieces and some water so we can dine in.
The cakes were so light and reminded me of my favorite bakery back in Kansas. The flavors were good and it wasn’t crazy sweet either. I wish they had more flavors available so I can try them all to know my favorites. They mainly sell custom cakes so that’s probably what I’m going to order for the next family gathering. Custom cakes are around $30-50 which isn’t bad judging by the size and taste. I wish they were closer so I don’t have to drive an hour the next time I’m craving some French cakes!
#1 Tiramisu (the cocoa dust) layered vanilla and chocolate sponge cakes with sweet whipped cream, not mascarpone or cream cheese which normal tiramisu has. We didn’t finish it.
#2 Vanilla Napoleon (white glaze) custard cream wasn’t smooth and creamy and pastry layers were few days old. Not a fan of this one.
#3 Eclair even though the profiterole itself was on the flatter side the chocolate filling was creamy with rich dark chocolate taste. Husband ate the whole thing in one bite.
As we tried all three, eclair was ok for us.
Great variety
Tiramisu 4/5
Almond croissant 3/5
Eclair 2/5
The tiramisu was very unique, they were pre-sliced and covered with some type of frosting that firmed up slightly giving it a fun texture on the exterior.
If I come back it will be to sample some of the other cakes
The service is very nice, we did a takeaway, but I don’t think I would have liked to eat inside, the vibes are a mix of French style tables and bright neon lights for the desserts display. I think warmer tones would ne more appropriate for thus type of business.
They have little tables outside, overlooking some parking lots.
The place harmonious and peaceful always full of greenery and good beautiful atmosphere. .
But they were out of lettuce, and the roast beef was still a little frozen. The soup was ok, but I would’ve liked it to be more chunky. The pastries weren’t that good. The croissant tasted stale, and the cake was way too heavy on the pineapple and way too light on the coconut. It was clear they used canned pineapples, because the cake was soggy. For the price, I’m not upset enough to complain to management, just disappointed enough to think twice before coming back.
The shop is very adorable and seems like a nice place to relax and enjoy some coffee, which was easily the best tasting thing on the menu.
