I’ve been to Roy’s fish market twice now and cannot wait to return. It’s a small, hole in the wall type place that only sells sushi/sashimi for take out. Be sure to order ahead of time! There is always about a 2 hour wait, especially around dinner times, regardless of day of the week. I usually call ahead many hours in advance. Both times, I got the Roy’s special combination set which comes out to about $39 with tax. They do take card but I always pay in cash.

The sashimi slices are thick and decadent, truly “melt in your mouth”. The sushi rice is well cooked and seasoned. I think for how much you are paying, you get really good restaurant quality sushi.

I can’t wait to go back again!

This was my second time at this place, first time successfully getting food, after calling ahead of time. The first time I was here, when I tried to ordered, I was gruffly asked, “did you order in advance?” then told that if I ordered then, I wouldn’t get it for 2 hours, so I left hungry. This time I knew better and ordered hours in advance. The food was ready at the time that I had told them, and it was pretty good. The quality is good – nothing that blew me away; but at this price point, it’s worth it. It’s pretty out of the way, so I probably wouldn’t get it too frequently; but would definitely come back, if I’m in the area. I do wish that they had some sort of all-salmon combo, though!

I got if recommended by a friend since she knows I love sushi but my problem was that the freshest sushi would always cost an arm and a leg, but this spot is the best of both worlds!
I called about 2 hours in advance for pick up for a sashimi and sushi combo and as soon as I got there, I got it and the owner was the sweetest.
This is a real gem and is about to become a weekly guilty pleasure of mine

5/5 Sushi and Sashimi Set ($26) — great bang for your buck! Quality nigiri and sashimi pieces were very generously sliced!

Only wished there was counter seating to enjoy indoors!

4.5/5 Roy’s Special A Set ($19.5): superb quality fish, especially loved the salmon nigiri pieces!

Only -0.5stars as other reviewers alluded to, it is a bit pricey for the serving size. I do think the sashimi platter looks like better value, so I will be sure to order that next time

The best sushi I have had in a long time. I would have never known to stop in here had someone not mentioned it at a meeting today. I ordered the Roys special and California Roll.

I called it in at 4pm and was lucky to be able to pick it up same day at 7:30pm. A lot of love and precision goes into this no frills fish market with a hidden gem – very fresh sushi spot!

Roy himself is there working and is highly respected by all the patrons that came in.

Order ahead and it’ll be a breeze for pick up.

Ordered from them twice in one week cause the fish was so fresh and delicious. Definitely call and order ahead and expect a wait cause Roy receives a lot of orders in a day. We typically order 1.5hr before we plan to eat. The owner/chef is actually a really nice guy so don’t be intimidated by his demeanour.

Small party platter ($102 total) was gorgeous, fresh, and fed three hungry people! Called in the morning to place an order for 6:30pm pickup same day. Loves the variety of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi – Roy’s never disappoints!

I came for the first time for just uni initially, since it’s hard to find Santa Barbara variety in NYC. Then the owner recommended the ootoro and scallop. I couldn’t order at the time since they were backed up and about to close.

I slept on it and decided I might as well try the ootoro and their sushi, since I haven’t seen my friends in a while and uni alone wasn’t going to be enough to fill us up.

I call at 9 AM on a whim thinking, “There’s no way he’s going to pick up, right?”

And he does!

So, I made a pre-order for sushi for pick-up at 11:45 AM. You have to pre-order the sushi because the sushi is always high in demand, but it’s ABSOLUTELY worth it.

I have never had sushi and sashimi so high in quality in my entire life. I actually cannot believe it is even possible for eel to taste so good. Even the wasabi is high quality!

And the owner is so sweet and gave excellent recommendations!
Highly recommended!

For that matter, I came from Brooklyn, lugged around the big sushi tray through public transit and went through a gigantic crowd in Soho before finally taking the express bus to Staten Island to share the meal with friends. It was extremely stressful, but the fish was so good that I would do it again without hesitation.

That is how highly I recommend it!!!

PSA definitely call to order ahead to avoid a long wait.

This is a no frills, high quality takeout sushi & fish monger that’s an incredible ROI. Roy was also super nice and added in a spicy tuna roll for my sushi sashimi combo! I also ordered scallop, ikura and sweet shrimp.

The scallop and sweet shrimp are literally some of the best ive ever had. Everything else was incredible too

Came for the foretold, quality, bang-for-your-buck sushi combos. Tell the monger what you’re craving and he’ll amend accordingly to your taste. The man behind the counter, provided me, a first-timer to the establishment generously offered me a morsel of Hokkaido uni to try and included an extra piece of delicious fatty tuna to my combo order, even as he lamented how much the price of fish has skyrocketed these days. It’s very clear that Roy’s is still taking pains to give the very best to their customers despite the pinch. Go. It’s worth it.
