First time here. Stopped in after a nice bike ride along the lake. Checked out the reviews before hand and everyone seemed to love the food/place. I would agree.
It’s located on the ground floor of an office building. During normal business hours you can access it through the building main entrance, but it was saturday and you enter through a side door on the south side. The dining area is nice, but not especially cozy. (why atmosphere is 4 stars)
It was nearly noon and the place was starting to get busy. The staff were friendly and helpful with the menu. It was past breakfast we ordered a sandwich and salad. A TAB, Turkey, Apple and Bacon sandwich, with curry spread. And a Smoked Turkey, Apple and Cranberry Salad. Both were excellent. The roll with the salad was just okay (a piece of baguette would have been an improvement).
Overall, a great dining choice.

Really enjoyed the service and food. You ordered at the front and the staff brings to your table.
This is outside of regular review for me but I have to say a big “Thank you” for seeing a business showing compassion. I’m a male and do not show public emotion but it was difficult for me after seeing this.
A gentleman came in that looked disheveled, possibly homeless but definitely in some level of crisis. (I could be wrong but from my experience I’m right). Anyway, not sure the position of the male worker behind the cash register, knew this gentleman and got him coffee but spoke to him as if they were good friends. The normalcy in this interaction is what got me thinking about how I view and treat others. I feel I truly try to treat everyone the way I want to be treated but I know I fall short probably more than I like to admit.
This interaction I saw got me to remember the time when I had nothing and was truly hungry and cold not knowing what to do next and how people treated me. Not in a good way. Their actions reinforced or revived me to work harder to be more compassionate or at least aware.
Funny how going to a place and viewing something that makes me be more introspective. Thank you Red Onion and keeping being the example.

This place is so well done. Delicious coffee and food. The atmosphere is pleasant and not too noisy, as some cafes can be. It has good style and the people who work there are very friendly. This is my go to breakfast/brunch place in Racine. The staff is amazing, they are super nice and helpful all the time. It’s nice to feel appreciated as a customer. The food and coffee are delicious. You really can’t go wrong with anything. I recommend the breakfast sandwich and hash browns. If your an English Premier League fan they typically have a game on the one TV on Saturdays and Sundays. The cafes giant windows make this a great place to people watch year round. If you’re in the area check this place out.

Updated Review – 3/18/23: We woke up and decided we wanted to go out for breakfast. It was the morning after St. Patrick’s Day, and we were hoping we could find somewhere that had corned beef and sauerkraut is some form or fashion for breakfast. We were in luck…. The Red Onion Cafe had a couple of specials…. The Reuben Omelet and the Reuben Quiche. WOW! They were both delicious!!! I also got my favorite drink…. The Cobra Chai Latte…. Mmmm!!! Everything was delicious and the service was fast and friendly. As usual, I would highly recommend The Red Onion Cafe!

Updated Review – 12/30/22: Last minute, we decided to go out for breakfast. The first place we thought of was the Red Onion Cafe. It is only five minutes from our house…. Super convenient! We sat down and immediately saw our former neighbor and his son walking in. They sat with us. Five minutes later another neighbor and his wife walked in. That is what we like about the Red Onion…. it is GREAT neighborhood restaurant. The food is delicious…. The atmosphere is great…. And the service is fast and friendly. We highly recommend The Red Onion Cafe!

Updated Review – 12/1/23: We stopped in for a quick coffee and chai tea latte. They apologized for being short-handed… but we got our drinks in record time! The service is ALWAYS friendly and helpful. Our drinks were perfect. Super hot… Just like we like them. I tried the Cobra Chai Tea Latte… SUPER delicious. It is a normal Chai Tea Latter with Hot Honey in it. We didn’t get anything to eat… But I can tell you that everything I have ever got there is delicious! I will always recommend The Red Onion Cafe! One of my favorites!

I stopped in for an early lunch yesterday on my way back to Chicago, and was very pleasantly surprised to see a fried walleye sandwich on the menu. It was excellent – freshly fried, good dressing, and a very good roll. The combo with drink and a side was a great deal, and while I had high hopes for the German potato salad, alas… too much sugar, not enough vinegar. Service was good, albeit a bit perfunctory. Next time I’m in Racine I’ll go back for the tuna fish sandwich, which gets rave reviews.

Came for breakfast. The food was delicious, although the first time around they gave us the wrong food. I got a flavored latte and it was delicious as well. Lots of seating. Friendly staff – one of them was able to recognize that we were first timers, by our blank stares no doubt. I plan on visiting again.
